With everybody from The New York Post to ESPN reporting that Jeff Van Gundy is finished with the Rockets, it seems to be very true. With JVG leaving, a top coaching spot in the NBA will be open with the Houston Rockets. There are plenty of names out there but who do you want to come in and coach the team next season?
I posted this in the JVG Retiring thread thread, here's my opinion: I think Mario Elie would be the perfect head coach for the Rockets so long as they had a very experienced Xs & Os assistant coach (like Rudy T) and another assistant coach like Hakeem. This coaching team not only would bring excitement but would be able to instill the mindset needed to get back to championship level. Mario would have an awesome mentor that all players would respect in Rudy and Rudy would be able to get back to his passion without as much of the stress. Hakeem would bring the intensity and fire to this franchise and punish Yao during practice. This would be the ideal trio to get this franchise to the next level.
The assistant in Pheonix, don't know what his name is, but the Toronto Raptors GM loves the guy.....someone help me out here....

Jon Barry said that JVG was thinking of doing this this past Summer because of not being involved in some team decisions. What is that about I thought JVG made all the decisions. The only one he did was the decision to sign VSpan, was VSpan the cause of JVG leaving?
Let's go with Mario Elie and go from there. The guy will bring the passion and the willing to win for H-Town. JVG will not be coaching next year I can see him working either with TNT or ESPN/ABC. Good Luck JVG. As for Clyde and Bullard I hope if Elie is hired the Rockets should bring back Murphy.
Clearly the GM took a longer view of the situation than JVG, and that is 100% the right thing to do. But the balding midget couldn't get with the bandwagon and decided that his little " I will show them" Attitude was more important than the team's long term success. GOOD RIDDANCE JVD ! DD
