Ridnour's back in the lineup. No clue what they're doing up there in Seattle. Anyways, Atkins would be a nice fit, except can we drag him here? That's the question.

What they were doing was showcasing Watson for trade.

I suggested a deal centered around Bonzi for Artest a while ago too. Sacramento is a pitiful 22-29 but given Artest's all-around game and how he makes like $7-8M a year they probably will want to hang on to him. Bibby is the guy they really would do well to move.

But for a minute imagine us getting Artest then rolling into the playoffs with a lineup of Alston/McGrady/Battier/Artest/Yao -- great things could happen with a line up like that.

I'd take Watson or Knight over nothing, but both have inconsistent jumpers.

In Rafer we have a good steward of the ball, decent defender and just barely adequate 3 point shooter.

If we add a vet PG, we want one with more potent off the ball ability than Rafer.

That means guys who are better shooters and/or finishers like James, Atkins, Stoudamire, Boykins, Diener, or A. Johnson. Ridnour, Duhon and Bell might be possible but we would probably have to include our own 1st rounder, the initial list probably would not cost that much.

Damon Jones, Hart, Bobby Jackson, Jaric (if we got extra compensation), T Hud (ditto) and Lue are other (lesser) veteran possibilities and would be nice to have if we don't give up anything substantial. I am not sure Dan Dickau is any better than JL3 and defintely is less used to the Rockets system--not sure the point of such a trade.

Just say no to Mike James. Or wait, tell the media that he's the guy we'd really like to get above all others, string him along a bit, then go elsewhere after his options dry up. Let him reap what he has sown. He wanted to go there, and wanted his no trade clause or whatever it was.... most importantly, he's not playing for a contract, so I think you know what you can expect from Me James... as seen in Figure M.

Some other backup point for Rafer isn't a bad insurance policy plan, maybe spell him in the last couple of minutes when skip seems to make uncharacteristically bad decisions occasionally. Otherwise, I think he is a good fit here.

I wouldn't make any drastic moves... we have yet to see what this team can do when hitting on all cylinders...

that's just crazy dave. anyway, i agree. say no to mike james. when he was getting the open shots in houston, he was making them. but when he was depended upon to create his own shots, he was no better than rafer. instead of missing his layups he was blocked consistently. the end result is the same. no points. i've watched him with minny and me no like.

Rafer is still a pure PG, he knows how to pass and even though he's in a shooting slump he still dishes out alot! and mike is just not a pure PG simple as that!! I don't mind getting mike but you really can't compare them.

rafer, lucas, sura, and vassillis for mike bibby the trade works in the trade machine. only problem no backup point guard. which leads to the TE get the backup point guard through this and we will be playoff ready what do you guys think about this you could get dickau through TE as back up point

    Uh, what would Jake say?

The original question was neither an endorsement nor an indictment of Mr RA but rather what was the likely outcome of a roster tweak at the b/u 1/2 in the brief time ere the deadline?

And with games W/F/Su/M a quick hit, if a hit is indeed a'coming, would certainly help get the newbie acclimated.

Man, I just don't get you guys. "Trade Rafer, bring in Artest, get James," and on and on. Do you guys realize that had Luther made his last shot we would be 2-2 against the Mavs, and this without the best player in the NBA.

I am so sick of people worrying about the Mavs and the Suns. They should be worrying about the Rockets. How is Dallas going to double the ball in crunch time with Yao in the pivot? THEY CAN'T. Which means TMac will create whatever he wants. Luther and Battier will get any 3 they want, because the Mavs will be preoccupied with Yao and TMac. Likewise if Howard is on the floor he will get open 15 footers a shot he is very adroit at draining. Do you like this team's chances when Battier and Luther getting any shot they want and with Howard taking 15 foot jumpers? I DO! And the opponents have no choice but to send at LEAST 3 guys to guard TMac/Yao.

And the Rockets are also set on the defensive end for crunch time. TMac and Battier can take care of the perimeter defense and Yao, on the interior. Howard also is very underrated on defense and is better than average. So this teams does not need to mess with its current mix of players. The team already has the components to win.

The Rockets are playing great with a 26 points, 10 rebounds, 2 blocks missing from their lineup. They don't need Artest or James or anybody else to win it all. Yao coming back is leaps and bound beyond anything that can be acquired in a trade. The Rockets can do it with what they have. IF the Rockets want to move Bonzi, because of the option year resting with Wells, I understand that. But they need to use that trade bait to acquire a PF that can possibly step in for Howard next year.

Other than his horrid FG%, he really is an awesome PG. He has few turnovers and runs the offense almost flawlessly. Remember the Hornets game when he got ejected in the 1st quarter? Remember how lost the Rockets looked without him?
