Does anyone actually pay full price for xbl? Prepaid cards go on sale all the time and people just need to watch out for this. Heck, I only paid 27.99 for my last year's subscription.

I'm thinking about getting a 360, but probably won't be getting a XBL subscription. Besides, I think in Asia you can get their games pirated. I won't be needing to play online anyways.

Well sure, if you want to play 360 games (Gears, Forza, Halo, etc.) online. Don't really have a choice otherwise.

But you're right. Can't blame them. To quote KevinCow from NeoGAF:
    (wow that's a lot of *'s).

    Waiting for:

Yeah, I wanted to have a little fun with the title.

Though that kind of shows you how bizarre this is. Price should be going down, not up.

No, Microsoft just wants more money. And people will continue to pay, so why not?

Least they could do is get rid of the ads. But if they did that, guess it would be $70 a yea...I mean, $5.83 a month.

Not really. "a$$holes" show up on XBL, PSN, Steam, etc. I wouldn't make any assumptions about your subscription paying for services like policing. That stuff is done for free on other services. Your subscription fee is just helping Microsoft with their profit numbers.

If you want to play your 360 games online, you don't really have much of a choice other than to pay for the subscription.

But I guess people can just give that up...right?

Who knows, PS4 might just throw out a subscription too. Sony may have thought gamers cared for free online gaming, but Microsoft is basically proving them wrong. $50 a year? Ha, we'll actually increase the price for no good reason and gamers will still pay it.

Can't beat 'em, join 'em. $50-$60 PSN may not be too far off.

(and I'm going to be a very unhappy RC Cola if/when that happens)

Assuming there isn't too big of a backlash, they'd be dumb not to increase the price after a few years.

And at that point, it will also not be a big deal since "it's only going up by $10."

I think most people do that. Or should.

Of course, good luck continuing to find cards for $27.99. Probably going to be $37.99 soon.

Yup. Price raising sucks, but hopefully people have been paying a lot less for a while now anyway.

You have the choice ....they are not forcing anything on anyone.

DD, Will you pay 60 a year to avoid playing me in BFBC2?

btw will you be picking up MoH? Since its MULTI was built by the BC engine, I hope to see you avoiding me there too!

So I'm pretty sure that's the most sarcasm I've seen from you in a single post in, like... ever. Well done.

Incidentally, serious question to all those people who keep saying Xbox Live is just so much better than PSN: what's the difference? Seriously. I play Bad Company 2 on PS3 all the time (250 hours or so), and never have I really had a problem. I'm not really understanding what makes Xbox Live "better."

That's basically how much I spend a year on console games.

    got my $40 renewed! whew!

you know if you have a ps3 or xbox360, i think you guys have some money (or your parents)

video games are freaking expensive now, look how much controllers cost.

isn't PSN coming up with some premium plan that cost money?

do you guys have a cable/satellite bill? that's wayyyy more than online gaming charge.

The PSN premium plan is pretty useless, so I'm ignoring it. Mostly it just seems to be there to let you download crap games that aren't selling anyway for "free".

And heck no I don't have cable or satellite. Way too expensive. There's nothing on TV I can't just download if I really want it, or buy on DVD/Blu-ray.

PSN Plus came out a couple months ago. I don't know anyone that currently has it. None of the features appeal to me.

Well, I originally did plan on playing the PC versions of Halo, Gears, Alan Wake, etc. But then Microsoft killed those versions.

So if I want to play those games, and try some of their online modes, I'm pretty much forced into paying whatever/month for XBL.

This move by MS has allowed me to enter my ultimate form: Sarcastic RC Cola.

After a week of these posts, you guys are going to be wishing that MS kept the price at $50 (or even made it free). Though maybe not that big of a deal...not even 83 posts/month.

Yeah. But as Drexlerfan22 said, for now it is primarily to get access to some "free" games every month. Early access to Betas and stuff like that I think. I wouldn't be surprised if they added more substantial features to it to increase revenue. Though somehow, I believe sales have been pretty good as is (again, gamers will pay for anything).

Still free online, Netflix, and all that stuff for PSN.

Same here. Cut off my cable a little while back. Probably should have never had it setup, but I didn't bother to really think about it back then.

Watching some MST3K lately actually, which is better than anything I watched (or...uh...didn't watch) while I was paying $60/month or whatever it was.

i've slowed down my video game buying. i did upgrade my xbox to an elite and that came with 2 games (halo odst and forza 3)

this year i bought mass effect 2 and i still haven't finished it, i think it might take me the entire year to win it cause i can't sit down for that long of a period to play games anymore.

i haven't even played much street fighter 4 turbo at all.

however, my movie watching, tv watching, and netflix watching has increased (got a brand new plasma tv)

Oh please, Live has Cross Game Voice chat and that's it.

Name two more things Live has over free PSN if you can?

Add to the fact that 360 has zero decent games other than 2 shooters and forza, it's ridiculous Microsoft is actually charging more for Live.

Damn, I haven't played online for 6 months now! I've been trying to beat all the special ops on vet in MW2 and get random achievements in other games. I didn't want to drop $50 again. My pals have been pleading with me to get back on so we can play Gears and MW2. I was being stubborn... Now I may have to scoop up some cheap subscriptions so I don't have to shell out even more money in the future...

    Wow we are stupid...

False, For all of Microsoft flaws, The 360 has fantastic games, and most of them run much smoother on the 360 compared to the PS3...
