With a sweep on the line, Dwight just quit on his team.

It was interesting how Kobe left the dressing room as Dwight was coming in.

And then they say Kobe would make the last pitch to Dwight. Should the Lakers FO have been surprised when Kobe says (paraphrasing) "listen chump, come back and I'll school ya on how to be a winner!"

Noone should have been surprised Kobe blew it up like that.

Wonder how many "don't want him" folks in this thread were guilty of complete 180's in the epic Dwight thread.

Pretty sure Kobe quit on the Lakers when they got swept by the Suns.

While I've always loved, dreamed to have Howard on the team, I would say it came mostly from realistics expectations. Basically the Rockets have been mediocre so long, been rejected by so many before, that I felt any star, even one with so many warts, is still great. After all, Lebron's not coming. Durant's not coming. "Perfect" players in great situations simply aren't going to demand a trade to the Rockets. Or come here via FA.

In the end, as a Rockets fan I felt we had to get a star at his worst moment, when it's most risky. Lakers got Gasol when he and the Grizzlies were floundering. Kings got Webber when he was pouting on the Bullets. I felt we needed to take a chance on a star that everyone had written off. Because that's when such a player is available.

Dwight Howard, for the entire past season, I hoped could be that star. And only a medical report stating his back injury was chronic would've changed my opinion on getting him.

Yesterday I lost faith. Today I woke up defending them on social media.

    It's hard.

looking back howard was certainly the best we could get at the time after so many FA misses - so we were all glad to have him.

hes still a good player and could patrol the paint for a few more years... but paying him 20 million a year?

ive seen enough dwight howard to say he is not the answer we were hoping for. these rockets need a true second scorer next to harden, not to mention some true leadership. unless we get that, this team is not going to go very far. now we know that.

if morey can pull that rabbit out of his hat somehow and land another star, that 3rd piece, i could see dwight being the best ally-oop, garbage point, rebounding big man in the game.

until then, we're expecting too much.

    20m a year is subjective.

20m next year is like 15m this year and he is without question worth that.

I wouldn't say it's "without question". Bottom line is we're paying a defensive role player $22,359,364 this year and $23,282,457 next year if he opts in.

That's not even remotely worth it if you ask me. Especially when you consider that the skillset of being an elite rim protector is starting to become more and more obsolete with every team seeming to embrace Moreyball.

Laughed at my response on the first page. Neither Harden nor Howard are guys that have ever won me over 100%.

I give Dwight a ton of credit for his playoff performances so far, but this team isn't right for him, and the salary hit is no longer worth it. I think even the most ardent Dwight fans realize that now.

Funny how everyone questioned his heart and spoke on how lazy he is. He does that now and most of us totally ignore it, lol. He's not worth his contract now but next year if we can get a second big time scorer we won't have to worry as much.

Ok, I bumped this thread...but wtf??? I don't remember bumping this thread at all. At least not on purpose. I could have sworn I made this post in another thread.. sorry guys. I use clutch fans on mobile so I must have clicked related threads on accident before I made my post. I feel like an idiot by bumping this thread because this bump makes no sense at all.

i cant say dwight quit - but... this team is toast!

    not even hating.

put a chink in that warriors armor. find SOME WAY to exploit them in these next two games.
let someone else take them out.

I was never as excited about DH coming here as many others. But he was all we could get I suppose. He's just not champion material.

Lol hilarious coincidence, but I actually think the bump makes a lot of sense. We are definitely at risk of getting swept. Dwight has looked pretty disengaged in this series and is likely leaving us this summer. So yeah, well done (even if it was an accident)!
