Hell yes I would make the trade! You had T-Mac in his prime, arguably better than Kobe Bryant at the time, and a presence in Yao Ming. They could have parallelled Shaq/Kobe in my mind as an inside and outside threat. Just so unfortunate that we didn't have a legit supporting cast. Who knows how far that the current cast plus a HEALTHY Yao + McGrady could have gone. Just so sad that the "Yao/McGrady Experiment" never lived up to its full potential. Such a sad story for us Houston Rockets fans. However, I know that we are right around the corner in getting back to being true contenders!

They should not consider this because we do not live in an alternate universe. Sadly, Morey, with all of his intelligence, and Alexander, with all his wealth, have not created a time machine to navigate the space-time continuum. Therefore, if ifs and whats were candy and nuts, consider that. I blew your mind right there. That just happened. Shake and bake. Can we get The Wizard back in his prime, too? If so, the Rockets should also consider that. Or we could do a sign-and-trade with the Knicks now. I think 6 years/180 million sounds fair, plus the right to retire the number 1 jersey in our rafters. I feel warm and fuzzy already.

Would not make the trade. His style of offense would not compliment this "ball moving" team.

His style of play would require high percentage spot up shooters standing around waiting for the double teams.

    to put it simply...

if 2004 Tmac was a free agent, right now the world would revolve around where Lebron + Tmac was going... not where Lebron and Wade are going.

    he was THAT good.

and from a ownership position, Tmac did a ton for the bottom line. he raised the profile of a borderline-playoff team into the frontpages of sports pages and made the team an instant contender. to be fair he also gave Yao cover and experience to develop into the player he is now... without having to shoulder too much of the load too soon.

Watching highlights from the rockets/mavs series again was an eye opener for me. That Tmac was so much better than the Tmac we'd be getting the last few years. He looked like Kobe, which is almost a ridiculous notion at this point. It almost hurt to watch.

I didn't vote no, but I rekon if you want macdouchebag you would have to trade martin, hill and maybe throw in NY 2012 draft pick.. sound familiar?

    Brooks
    MacDouche
    Battier
    Scola
    Yao

    1st round here we come!!!

you all realize we DID GET ORLANDO Tmac right?
We did team him up with another all star.

Kinda like Ray Allen and KG teaming up with Paul Pierce except that they put aside their egos and were team oriented.

    different results.

If we had Morey and Adelman when we first had TMac and Yao together, we might have won a championship or two already.

Uh... not exactly, maybe if we kept the 2003 version of Steve Francis

    03 version of Steve Francis
    05 version of Tracy McGrady
    Ariza
    Scola
    07 version of Yao

Now that's a pretty damn good squad. LOL

If we had the team we have now plus McGrady and Yao in their prime and we probably would have been hoisting another trophy.

Once again with the "ifs" lol

You forgot to mention that the allstar that McGrady was paired up with was as injury prone, if not more, than himself.

Yes all the Tracy lover's only see his highlights, and never look at the overall character and substance. Kinda reminds me of the wife that keeps getting slapped around by her husband, but keeps coming back for another slap because she loves him.

Ever hear the old saying; "first time you screw me, shame on you. screw me again shame on me".

There are tons of guys with less talent, but more heart and character, that I would take over Tracy any day. The guy just is a winner and if you can't see it, Shame on you.!!

this is a groundhog day thread.

i mean, we'd all do the same thing, trade steve and get tmac, but the results will still be the same because we already know how this ends.

Well, since I'm not of fan of getting Bosh, I think I can credibly say that I wouldn't want to get Orlando TMAC. There are some similarities between the 2. Both wanted to be the man, but really didn't having any solid playoff experience to being the man.

I did not like the team we had very much back then, only player I missed from the deal was Mobley. There was really nothing to lose. Now, you have a good team that can compete in the playoffs as is. You have a GM who is going to make something of this team one way or another, it's only a matter of time.

My guess is that Morey would do a statistacal analysis of Orlando TMAC and still make Bosh priority #1.

Maybe you have the idea that retrospect is never allowed? Or that speculation isn't welcome here?

Here, we talk about a variety of things that aren't generally feasible or realistic for the sake of discussion and entertainment.

I wouldn't do it simply because it was his fault that when I was in the stands at a game I ordered a Heineken and got a Budweiser.

'Tracy lovers', 'Stacy fans', 'buttlicking', dang it's dangerous to have an open minded discussion here.

Go back and watch the 2005 playoffs and tell me that that person, Tracy McGrady, was not an excellent player who wanted to win.

You're just wrong if you think TMac did not win pre-2008 because of some vague, fan-constructed lore that fate will not allow someone to win if they become a quitter 3 years down the road.

Because of what happened in 2009, no I would absolutely never take McGrady post 2008 again.

Simple... end of goofy exercise in retrospect.
