Thanks t-mac for "It's on me",
its completely different from "Never underestimate the heart of a champion",
but it ranks up there in being memorable.

we won't forget it, like D-Day or the Spanish Inquisition or when they found out Milli Vanilli was a fraud

I think the rockets screwed tracy and yao by having guys like hayes, battier, and rafer as support players. Not only that, throw in luther and jvg to top it off. By the time they tried to fix it, tracy was done and yao is pretty much done also.

    So true.
To me it showed me the difference between champions and pretenders. The difference between taking it to the next level and just taking it no where.

Good god we were so lucky to have had "The Dream", then so unfortunate to have 'The Wanna Be". ;)

Getting Tmac then is the equivelent to Dwayne Wade now...

obviously they are different players but as far as their talent level and dominance...

Although Mac was the cause for many mid-season migranes, he gave us 3 years of awesome basketball... I dont think anybody can argue that it was an awesome pickup for us..Although we didn't go deep in the playoffs.. we were contenders..

i like to think of his last two years with us as the "rebuilding phase" and getting rid of him was our reloading..

I love the short term memory.

Would you trade Aaron Brooks and Shane Battier for Dwayne Wade? Any takers?

T-Mac then was amazing. He played his ass off but had no supporting cast. It's that simple.

TMac doesn't help me appreciate Olajuwon, nor do I need him to.

With hindsight, I'd take TMac again until '08, just like I said. Olajuwon retired and solidified his place in history, and is irrelevant to TMac.

All I'm getting at is that I can't understand why you are so infatuated with a guy just because he had talent.

I was a big McGrady fan for a while before I saw his true colors. I can't respect a guy that disrespected an entire organization (teammates, coaches, owner, etc...) and the city of Houston.

He never knew when to shut his mouth and he always did things based on his own agenda. Everybody's gotta take care of number one first but he took it to a whole other level.

I don't fault the guy for having a crooked spine and a body that wasn't built to last 10+ years in the NBA. I don't fault him entirely for failing to lead this team out of the first round of the playoffs.

But over time, it became clear by his words and actions that he really was the Me-Mac we heard about while he was with Orlando. And I just couldn't support the guy at that point just because of his talent. I'll take a team-first guy with less talent any day of the week.

I respect the guy who played through injuries to finish out 2008. You can call him selfish if you want, but that act alone makes me tend to discredit notions of it. There was no real reason for him not to shut it down then: Yao was down, there wasn't a good chance of playoff success, and it wasn't a contract year. If he didn't care about his team he would've just quit right there and then.

The next year, however, had him attempt to do the same with wildly different results. It was supposed to be our year, the emergence of our very own "Big 3". But he just couldn't do it. I don't think it was a lack of heart and effort, but rather physical limitations. Do you really think he didn't care about that season? I find it hard to believe that within a few months, he could go from playing all-out for a weak team to not putting any effort into a legitimate contender. The Toronto game was a debacle, sure, but what did you expect him to do against Jamario Moon on a fastbreak? Contesting that shot would only have resulted in a poster and an and1. He couldn't even elevate enough for an uncontested dunk, as we witnessed in Milwaukee.

The microfracture surgery announcement, however, is an entirely different story and I'm not going to try and make excuses for him. He messed up, big time. He has never been good at public relations, as we all know from the Detroit series and "It's on me". The latter I would attribute to him trying to assume leadership, albeit in a misguided manner. But his effort from the rest of his time here is enough for me to give him the benefit of the doubt, and it most definitely prevents him from reaching Scottie Pippen levels of infamy in my book.

He gave us some pretty fantastic years as one of the best 5 or so players in the league. It was one of our best trades ever, considering what we gave up v. got.

Tinman, did you just imply that you used to NOT appreciate Dream fully? tsk tsk tsk... Wow, I question your dedication as an "old Rockets fan". Why do you need freaking T-Mac to help you appreciated Dream?

I mean, do you also need Chucky Brown and Charles Jones to help you "appreciate Dream more"? Seriously, Hakeem led us to 2 championships? Even us non-99ers can see where he should rank in Rockets history.

Yes, you had to make that trade. Sadly, by the time Yao and Tracy had help, they began to break down. What's the lesson, that there's no such thing as tomorrow in professional sports.

Damn it! I still think about what a healthy Yao and T-Mac would have done last season!

    A starting lineup of:
    Brooks/Lowry
    McGrady/Wafer
    Artest/Battier
    Scola/Landry
    Yao/Mutumbo/Hayes

That lineup would have easily won the championship last year!

Isn't she a free agent now. I am sure we can get him for part of the MLE. It will be like the 2nd coming of Francis and might even work out as good.

    Get R Done Morey!!

    NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    hehehe nice try dude.

basically it's like you were rich and living the life (hakeem years) and then the tmac/yao era started so you think you'll be rich again with that investment, then you realize you bought shares of AOL while people in San Antonio and LA bought shares of Apple and Google.

nah. Olajuwon is the standard for which superstars who wear the Rockets uniform must measure up to.

With hinsight being 20/20, we should have tanked to get Tim Duncan and drafted Parker and Ginobli.

He played very well for us, but I thought he played out of position. He should have been playing the 3 and not the 2. I have nightmares about all the three pointers he jacked up. Also, we didn't really surround him with the best cast in the world. I actually never thought we had the players to win a championship until Morey took over. So, on an Adelman team, with Morey as a GM, playing the 3, I would still make the deal. Franchise, Mobley, and Cato were not the be all, end all.
