You see, again. The fact the your posting didn't change before and after the sreak is ridiculous. The 2nd longest winning streak in the history of the NBA didn't prove to you that this team is better than you thought. Stubbornness at its best. This team can win a ring. Morey will obviously not pass anything up, but he knows that no matter WHAT we do, we'll end up around 55 wins. So he's decided that he'll use the summer PLUS half the season to make the best trade possible, rather than rushing it in the summer. Absolutely justified. I'm not interested in moving from 55 to 58 wins. I want to make the best trade possible to position us well in the playoffs. Even if this team makes the Finals, you will rant on about how "it was clear we weren't going to win it".
I've read ur a big "chemistry" guy, right? Like many on this board, chemistry is a key componet to a team success. Now just using simple logic, do you think a team has a better chance of developing that chemistry during the preseason and the begining of the regular season or in the middle? I think hoping and wishing for a Gasol type middle of the season type of trade is far and few between. We saw how Phoenix struggled trying to adapt to Shaq and Kidd in Dallas. We also saw Gasol make a smooth transition in the middle of the season. We also saw the celts get those guys together early to get off to a great start. The reason why alot of mid season big moves dont work is because in the nba, they dont get a chance to practice. Its hard to develop and play well without practicing. I think it would be better if he had a target in mind, get that guy a little after july 1 and go from there. Some say im unfair, but isnt it about rings? Should the organization have the theme of title or bust since they traded away their lotto pick? Being indecisive and in the middle can leave the organization stuck like chuck
Only one team wins it all each year. 29 teams should change their coaches and GMs, right? I've always liked Dumars. So yes, I would be very happy if we got him as our GM. Is he perfect? No. Is he better than Morey? It's like comparing Durant to McGrady. One has been playing for many years. The other just started. How can you compare? Morey has not done anything clearly wrong so far. And he has done something pretty good (e.g. snagging Scola, getting Landry in second round). Remember last offseason? The two greatest needs we had were PF and PG. He solved the PF one. He tried to solve the PG problem by getting James and Francis, and drafting Brooks. Neither veterans works out. So he shipped James out for Jackson. You think Morey is the kind of guy who just wants to stand pat? Think again. But if you want a guy who loves wheeling and dealing. Look at New York. Look at Dallas. You know the results. Being "decisive" without being prudent is the most dangerous thing in the world.
Isiah's problem isn't his inability to draft. He just doesn't seem to coach well or make wise FA/trades.
And if Dumars doesn't completely blow the Milicic pick and drafts either Wade, Anthony or Bosh the Pistons would have won multiple championships, especially with having to come out of the weak eastern conference. I'll never understand how Dumars gets a pass on completely blowing that pick. And I'll take Landry over Maxiell any day of the week and twice on Sunday.
We didn't have the roster space. This team was not built to be able to win big without both Yao and TMac. You can make a similar statement for just about every team in the league. Our 4/5 depth at the time of the deadline had been reduced from Yao/Deke/Scola/Hayes/Landry to Deke/Scola/Hayes. Deke is approaching 78. Scola is a rookie and foul prone. Hayes is limited and foul prone. The odds of one of them getting hurt or in foul trouble was pretty good. We needed bodies up front. Our PG depth had shown what it was. James was useless, Francis was hurt, and Brooks hit the wall -- you can blame Morey for not solving the problem, but you can't say he didn't try. Alston has logged a really hefty minutes load the last few years for a relatively slight frame. We needed a backup point guard. At the 2/3, we had TMac and Battier. If TMac goes down, we're going nowhere anyway. Battier has been a complete ironman his entire career. Behind them, Head and Novak are both talented shooters, despite their limitations. We needed depth, but mainly for insurance. So at the end of the day, Morey made a decision -- Battier and TMac are 36 minute a game type players. Do you take the remaining 24 minutes away from Head/Novak in favor of another marginal street free agent? (Really, Ira Newble would have made an ounce of difference)? Or do you go with the likelihood that a thin frontline rotation of limited players, including one on his last legs, gets hit with yet another injury or foul troubles? Or on the constantly pesky point guard position? The thing about -- Morey was dead on about the point guard spot. Just before the playoffs, Alston goes down. Bobby Jackson couldn't quite step in seamlessly, but it could've been a whole lot worse. When Yao goes it created a giant a ripple effect that caught up to us. Because trading players with 3 years left on their contract, have bad attitudes, and appear to be useless is always easy, right? Where have you been? You talk as if we've stood pat the last few years. Scola, Landry, Bonzi, James, Francis. All brought in to address those exact deficiencies. Just last offseason, we brought in James, Francis, Brooks, Landry, and Scola. That's turning over 1/3 of the roster to try and get a mix that works. Morey hit on two, the jury is out on a third, one completely flopped, and one was hurt and stayed hurt. 50/50 is probably better than going rate odds. The team goes nowhere without both Yao and Tracy. Plain and simple. And to suggest Ira Newble would've been the difference in the Utah series is completely laughable.
Nike- U make some good points and like anything on this forum, its good coversation which is always good. I never said Morey was a bust as a gm, I said that once he made the decision to trade the only backup to 2/3 spot, it should have been imperative to get a backup for that spot. That should have been #1 priority. Not only that, once the jackson trade was made, it basically duplicated and eliminated head's role. Watching the playoffs against the jazz last yr, harpring hurt us once tracy and shane went out. The main reason is because we had no one over 6'2 coming in to play against him. So how do u approach the trade deadline and the team motoring towards the playoffs against the same team expect to win? I'm not so blind to say that once yao went down all title hopes were off. I was saying even with yao the title hopes were off for some of the same reasons. No 3rd scorer, 1 shot creator and no backup 2/3 with any size. No gm is perfect and anyone knows that, but the really good gms work the back end of the roster. Betting on Francis who has been injury prone for 3 yrs, James who had a contract breakout yr and a rookie isn't exactly solidifying the pg spot. I will tell you at this point, I'm ready to give Brooks the job, so I'm giving Morey the credit on that one. Scola is a good player as well as Landry, but face it, upgrading Hayes should have been the easiest job in the nba. Deke still backs up Yao which is good in spurts but yao has now missed 87 games in 3 yrs. I'm expecting him to miss games this yr with the olympics and all. Saying Landry is the big offseason move is a mistake to me. Offer the guy 3 yrs at 2m per and if he walks, let him go. I'm just curious to see who they pull out of the offseason. The clock is running on this team just like it is on SA,Dall, and Phoe. There is a 2 or 3 yr window on thses teams before they'll be too old to make a difference.
