Exactly. If it's not going to cause significant problems, you can tell me I "should have them pulled" all you want it's not going to happen though, lol.

There is a greater chance that you will have problems than not have problems. It really isn't a good idea to hold on to them bc it is very likely they will cause issues, and the longer you wait to get them taken out, the more of a pain it's going to be.

Most people I know have had their wisdoms pulled. From everything I have seen and taken in getting them pulled is nothing but a SCAM. I am sure some people need them pulled. But everyone? If wisdom teeth were so bad why do we have them?

Biggest money grab scam of all time.

    ^^

You hit the nail on the head with this one. It's a joke that so many people buy into what these so called "professionals" tell you. Go to any dentist outside the US and come back and tell me if they want you to get your wisdom teeth pulled. If you floss every day and brush after every meal you shouldn't have any problems.

A doctor told me it was imperative that I get surgery immediately on my knee before things got worse (after suffering an injury a few weeks ago). I told the doctor to shut his trap and now just four weeks later I'm completely healed by drinking hot milk, slowly doing exercises on my own, and getting lots of rest.

Thats exactly the problem...how many people are actually religious about this? And those that are...what percentage are doing it properly?

Getting wisdom teeth removed is a very important preventative measure. Just like getting cleanings every 6 mo. Its all to prevent problems associated with your teeth and gums.

I am a dentist. Ive pulled wisdom teeth before, but only the most simple of cases. All others, I would refer out to an oral surgeon. Now, I ask, whats in it for me to recommend that you get your wisdom teeth removed? Its not like I would make any money off of it...it is not a scam. For those of you that think it is a scam, try working an the emergency room of a hospital and seeing how much damage wisdom teeth can cause. Ive seen it hundreds of times.

I would tell every family member of mine to get their wisdom teeth removed because...A) you dont need them for chewing B) it is, without a doubt, the hardest tooth in the mouth to keep clean C) They can only cause harm to you.

Everyone has their own opinions...but I will say that it is not a scam when a dentist recommends that you get your wisdom teeth extracted.

Actually, there is only one instance where it would be a scam: 1) That is if your wisdom teeth have erupted perfectly in line with all other teeth. 2) you have no other fillings in your mouth, thereby showing your low caries index 3) Regular 6 mo. visits to the dentist. If you have those 3 things going for you, by all means, save a few hundred bucks and go on a shopping spree.

I floss religiously, rez. It is my OCD habit. I've had one carie filled to help my friend pass his boards in March.

My bottom wisdom teeth have overgrown gingiva, but my top ones erupted fine. I never had pain, though.

Rez, I have a bony ridge below my second molar on the lingual surface on my bottom jaw. Is this normal?

they drill it into pieces then they pull it

it's not that bad, just make sure you're numbed up, you'll slurp and drool for a couple days, then you'll be fine

Is it on both sides? Like a bump? If so, that is called a lingual tori and it is not abnormal. A small percentage of people have it...it is asymptomatic and harmless. Usually, the only time it needs to be removed is if you were going to get partial dentures for your lower teeth...it would interfere with the denture, so that is really the only indication for surgical removal.

If its the bump or round protrusion that Im thinking, then it is called a lingual torus or a torus mandibularis.

I have only gotten one pulled and it was because I went to the dentist and told him it was hurting, he said it was pushing against other teeth and cutting my gums.

When I asked if I needed to get the others pulled, he said unless they hurt you, you dont need them pulled.

I ask my friends about theirs, and they all said they went to an oral surgeon and were asleep when it happened. I was awake for mine.

The simplest way I can explain it, is it SOUNDED like it hurt tons, but, it didn't hurt. Its just close enough to your ears where you hear everything.

They gave me a prescription for pain meds, but I never used them. And I don't remember how long I kept that cotton in my mouth, but you'll bleed a lot.

Other than that, I wouldnt be too nervous about it.
