Nobody is saying its a life or death issue. However, as hygiene becomes more important in our every day lives and new research studies come out and the cost of dental care is out the roof...its a good idea to get wisdom teeth removed at the first sign of a problem.
That is what my mom says. I had to have one wisdom tooth removed because I had a root canal to the tooth next to it. Since it had come out, it was painless and I ate a cheddar jalapeno dog at the Astros game the same night (I wasn't going to miss replica ring night...turned out to be a piece of crap). My other wisdom teeth are impacted and I haven't had them taken out. The root canal was a ***** in the back. I tasted blood and the smell was nauseating I dry heaved and the dentist had to stop. Why can't dentists give us a mask?
The mask doesnt make the smell go away...its just a form of protection from aerosols for the dentist. It still smells like ass.
when i was 20 the dentist told me i had to get them out so i didnt go to the dentist for 9 years. 3 of my wisdom teeth totally grew in and one was impacted. the two grown in on my left side were decaying and starting to abscess (major pain!). i was having to take like 6-8 advils a day just to get by so i finally went to the dentist. rather than send me to an oral surgeon, she offered to pull out the abscessed ones since they were fully grown in. i got the gas too, which was very nice. right when she yanked them out the pain in my head subsided - there was so much pressure that got relieved. they gave me a bunch of codiene and i actually felt good enough to walk about 3 miles home rather than call my ride. i felt great for the rest of the day, but after that i was in bed for about 4 days - was actually really messed up. some people recover quick and some are bedridden for a week. i would make sure you get at least 3 or 4 days off. i still have the two on my right side - one is impacted and one is grown in, but there is no pain at all so im not messing with them. EDIT: impeach bush!
I am 26 and I haven't had my wisdom teeth removed yet. Luckily I was only born with 2 of them on the lower jaw...no wisdom teeth on the upper jaw...woohoo I maybe getting them out soon though. What does the procedure cost if you have some average dental insurance?
Like Andymoon said, though, they are hard to keep clean because of their remote location. I had a painful abcess develop when I was out of town on Christmas Eve. I had to stay liquored up just to dull the pain... no kidding!
Question for you... mine were removed in two phases: left side then right side. They did both upper and lower each time because they said that any remaining tooth would grow disproportionately long without another upper/lower tooth opposing it. Was my dentist pulling a fast one just to get two teeth out instead of one?
Funny thing I didn't know what circumcision was until I got to high school. I'm soooo glad it was done on me
had mine taken out senior year of high school. went to an oral surgeon, the best is when you go have your first meeting with the doctor who is going to do the surgery they have you watch a video talking about the dangers of anesesthia. Gets you all worried. only 3 of mine grew, but all impacted. Like others have said, give yourself 3-4 days off.
Great Experience with a DENTIST-- not an Oral Surgeon. Name: Dr. Ronald Rhea (713) 467-3458 He is in the frostwood area. does not give general anesthesia. gives local anesthetic and a pill which makes you very calm and not nervous. pull four of my wisdom teeth (3 which you could see on the surface, one completely under the gum and slightly crooked) in less than 25 minutes. Very good experience.
He was telling the truth...If teeth dont have something opposing them, they will supra-erupt. However, it really doesnt matter if you are getting all your wisdom teeth removed within a short period of time. Another reason to do one side at a time is so that during the recovery phase, while one side is tender, you can still use the other side with relative comfort in order to eat.
Like most guys in this country, I was sliced and diced as a baby. After I was old enough to read about the rest of the world, I wondered why. Something like 90% of European men, if I remember correctly (no sure thing), are flopping around like they were when they came out of the womb, with no ill effects a regular wash wouldn't cure. My wife and I chose to not have the procedure done on our son when he was born, and we have had no second thoughts. He's 16 now, and hasn't complained. My opinion? As with wisdom teeth, if there is no problem, leave it alone. D&D. Replicant Beings.
