Haley is probably my favorite liar of all time. I still get a chuckle out of remembering one of his whoppers.

During the Clinton Impeachment, Haley was on TV as the Chair of the Repub Nat Cmte. He looked straight into the camera with his folksy drawl and said: " I have been an attorney for over 30 yrs IIRC and I can tell you that it is very rare for someone to actually tell a lie while under oath". ;)

I love recounting this whopper and get a laugh every time I see his folksy Clan loving face on TV.

The average Milwaukee public-school teacher salary is $56,500, but with benefits the total package is $100,005 . . .

Some argue that is pension is part of a deferred compensation option from the CBA implying that cumulative pension is in the same basket as salary. The problem is the taxpaying state citizens pay for the more than generous compensation package when those in the private sector are being squeezed by high taxes to begin with and tremendous economic woes...That is wrong and UN-sustainable...FREE Retirement benefits is not always good. . .(especially when you rob from the private working poor and give to 6 figure total compensation earning public school teachers)

Merely taking a pay cut is only a band-aid..What the numbers ultimately prove is the excessive power of collective bargaining. The teachers' main pension plan is set by the state legislature, but under the pressure of local bargaining, the employees' contribution is often pushed onto the taxpayers. In addition, collective bargaining led the Milwaukee public school district to add a supplemental pension plan—again with no employee contribution. Finally, the employees' contribution (or lack thereof) to the cost of health insurance is also collectively bargained.

The district also promised health care to retirees, including the many who retire while still in their 50s, and taxpayers cover the entire cost of the premium at retirement, retirees covering only the increase in cost. “For fiscal year 2011, retiree enrollment in the district health plan is 36.4% of the total,” so we’re on the hook for lots of people who aren’t teaching any more

“As the costs of pensions and insurance escalate, the governor's proposal to restrict collective bargaining to salaries—not benefits—seems entirely reasonable".

Corrective action by the Governor I applaud...

BREAKING: On the run Pregnant Wisconsin Democrat WILLING to endanger the well- being of her child . . .

Normally I admire dedication, but this is crazy...absentia of professional duties, and now absent of paternal duties...I can't imagine that her Doctor would endorse the course of action this woman has taken at the expense of her baby...

If anything should happen to that child,...I would just be grief stricken and beside myself...totally.

Please get back for your child stupid, stupid woman...and remember, ...we just need one...

    :)

How the hell would you know? Even if it isn't rare for a person to lie under oath, that would make Haley wrong not a liar.

Obviously,...However, ensuring a checkup with one's own designated Doctor once a month or twice a month is advisable for the baby's health...This stupid woman has decided her baby will be denied such care by running and hiding...Plus last I checked, these jackas$es haven't really been seen publicly. . .much less at hospitals. . .

Of course, there are rumors of dissent among the ranks, and of negotiating to return out of hiding - maybe they realize $100 a day fine is something in addition to paying fugitive style expenses...maybe the others are tired of hearing the whiny preggo missing her children or demanding for the others to get her chocolate or something?...maybe, the woman/women? are hog-balling the T.V. with LMN all day...who knows? (This whole duck and cover escapade is plain silly). . .

What we have here is a perfect example of the Chomsky-esque criticism of capitalism, i.e., that freedom in such a system is really only achievable if one is willing to starve. In capitalism there is still absolute authority inasmuch as one needs wages to eat, ergo you replace serfdom with wage-slavery. Effectively, it's the same thing, but the latter is far more economically powerful.

And here we see it in action. Is it any surprise that the masterminds behind tea-party anti-worker rhetoric are billionaires? It's a masterpiece of propaganda, subterfuge, and Machiavellian tactics...and the effects are going to be startling. As we sell off education and social programs our future prospects will be neutered; I fear we're on a path that leads towards something vaguely Huxley-esque.

I love it when people use Milwaukee as the only salary they mention. Wisconsin is more than one city. I've already published the number for the whole state. Because it looks better if you only pick one certain district in that state doesn't make your point more valid.

This article is a bunch of whining.

Look at that, because the politicians are too weak willed to say no to everything that comes in front of them we have to make sure unions don't have the power to bargain. Sorry I don't feel sorry because a bunch of weak willed Republican legislators are scared to say no in the future. Those poor politicians who suffer at the hands of the mean powerful union.

Can you provide a link to your numbers? Even Fox News is reporting that the average salary is ~$51,000 with a benefits package around $25,000 for a total compensation of $76,000.

In other words, your numbers appear inaccurate.

The problem is that there are two sets of numbers floating around. One is for a school district that offers the most, and the others are more representative of the state at large. The article cherry picked which salary and benefits package to highlight to make it look like all teachers are greedy.
