Dtown, go to www.blubster.com and download. Once you have it installed, go to the forums section on the front page and read about how to get past the firewalls. It does mp3's only, works great, even on roadrunner

    Dtown,

Learn how to use a newsreader and go to the newsgroups, there are bunches of mp3 newsgroups where ppl post songs.

You have to pick and choose from what ppl are willing to upload, but it's great for getting older. out-of-print music...there are also newerr ones if you are so inclined...;)

Sometimes, when I try to download some songs, or videos, they always download at ****ty 3 kbs or 5kbs, This thing is suppose to download like a 150 kbs or 300 kbs. How can you tell if youre downloading off someone with a faster modem. I've looked around and stuff.

I've run into the same problem. Even if it shows I'm downloading from somone with a fast modem/line it still takes forever. (I have a cable modem.) Every now and then I'll find a fast connection and get the song downloaded quickly.

From what I've seen is that some of the P2P programs are now making the "spyware" required to run the program; making it impossible to just delete it without reinstalling the whole thing (at least the times that I tried it, maybe the older versions of KaZaa still allow it)

I've tried many P2P software (KaZaa, Morpheous, Grokster, KaZaa Lite, Bear Share, Gnucleus, and many others) and I've found the best is by far imesh. Not only does it not carry spyware, but it is also incredibly fast. It uses some sort of meshing utility that allows for even faster downloads; which also means you can almost always find someone to share with (meaning you will not be stuck on "Looking for more sources.")

If you want a easy to use, fast, and reliable P2P program, imesh is they way to go.

I use KaZaa. The UI is good and finding mainstream music is not a problem. From what I have on other boards, WinMX is the p2p with the best overall selection especially rarities. Unfortunately WinMX has band width problems, which cause the d/ls to take forever.

After I installed KaZaa, I also installed a KaZaa Pop Ad Killer which catches 95% of the pop ups.

What do you usually download with Imesh? How good is the selection for music, movies, games, apps?

I used to use imesh, and I think it ruined my computer. I hated imesh forever because of that. I had wipe my entire computer. All those damn good mp3s i've downloaded are now gone.

Napster was the greatest damn thing ever. Damn the RIAA.

I usually download music and movies. Lately I've been going to CDnow.com and finding a CD I like then just trying to download the whole CD at once. With KaZaa, I would have to search for each song individually, and even then I usually ended up getting stuck on the "waiting for more sources" bit. With imesh, it is very easy to find almost all the songs you need for a given CD, and you do not have to worry about "waiting for more sources."

It seems to me that KaZaa and imesh pretty much have the same selection of music and what not, except that I think that KaZaa uses more networks for its searching. Meaning you might find more sources for downloads than in imesh, but that doesn't always mean that KaZaa will have a higher chance of actually downloading a file. If you read into imesh, they state that they use a different type of downloading procedure that KaZaa (called "meshing" the files); which helps make it faster and easier to download the files.

In other words, you can find the same files on imesh as you do on KaZaa, but you will have a better chance of downloading the files with imesh. Also, imesh doesn't have spyware (big +)

Yeah it's okay, but KaZaa in general always seemed to slow my computer down to a crawl, and of course you still get the crappy "looking for more sources" message.
