We still need an athletic; defensive-minded backup sg/sf in the mold of Kwahi Leonard; Iguodala; Sefolasha; Tony Allen; Marion;Paul George; etc. We couldn't afford Corey Brewer. Texas native Wes Johnson anyone? Why the Rockets should look at Johnson Will turn 26 next season, giving them a player hitting his "prime" Can play both shooting guard and small forward Is a player who plays within himself and his system Fills multiple needs, gives wing depth, and is likely within the Rockets' price range 6'7 with good wingspan Would be an upgrade at perimeter defense Other considerations Wes has all the tools, and fits the description of your classic athletic small forward ... At 6'7, he has a huge wingspan (easily over 7' feet), and tremendous leaping abilities which allow him to rise above traffic around the rim ... He has a smooth and fluent motion on his jump shot, and gets nice elevation ... Wes can run the floor and finish effectively in transition ... His quickness, awareness and long wingspan come into play defensively as well, as he is a terrific off-ball and help defender ... Can quickly move from the weak-side to ball-side, and uses those long arms and high leaping abilities to block an average of 2 shots per game ... He's athletic and long enough to play effective on-ball defense at the next level ... His wingspan and leaping abilities also make him an excellent rebounder, and his persistent nature and good nose for the ball make him a pest on the offensive glass ... http://www.nbadraft.net/players/wesley-johnson http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Wesley-Johnson-1215/
Thanks. I see he shot 40% his last year in NCAA. Was that an aberration or is last year's 32% an aberration. After all, he does play on the Suns which makes me unsure what is reality and what is the Suns' incompetence.
Yes, Wes Johnson is a free agent. He's a better shooter than the coveted Cory Brewer. I view him as a potential defensive specialist. He just need added strength. We now have the top strength coaches in the league.
Garcia will turn 33 this year. We need a better defensive option to get to get to the finals. Garcia should be considered our spot-up shooting specialist. NOT our defensive specialist.
Not if we want to win big. Francisco Garcia has never be known as a defensive-stopper. He gives major effort but he's not a stopper. Batter was always known as a stopper. At Duke he won Defensive Player of the Year three times. Francisco is known as an average defender at best... From DraftExpress.com http://www.draftexpress.com#ixzz2Ygg3iQhJ http://www.draftexpress.com Francisco Garcia Defense: An average defender at best. A risk taker who will make some plays, but also force his teammates to help him out. Loves to gamble in passing lanes. Will get his fair share of deflections by virtue of his length. Decent shot blocker for a guard. Displays decent rebounding ability. Needs to defend the ball better. Gets beat fairly easy off the dribble by quicker players. Has the length to compensate for his lack of foot speed and needs to learn how to stay far enough off the ball to be able to recover to both shots and drives. Will get posted up at times due to his lack of strength. Struggles to fight through screens. Awareness, intensity are not the best. Fairly foul prone as well.
So should we use your Draft Express Profile or should we go off of what he actually did on the floor last season? Hmmmm....... I'll take what I saw from Cisco last season, he was outstanding on defense.
Francisco excelled for 6 (playoff) games! Look at his entire career, he's an average defender at best. I love the signing too. However, we need someone younger than 33 and more athletic to go with him on the bench.
