sony is sending free upgrades for computers purchased after nov 5 '06. I should be getting my copy of home premium in the next few weeks
Vista is pissing me off. It takes 10 minutes to start up and doesn't have everything compatible yet (too many protection features). ...and this is the factory installed version. I think I'm going to get the option to start up either and then just use XP until Vista is all fixed up in a year or so.
can you buy a new computer with XP anymore now? b/c if vista is just going to be a pain, i'd rather just stick with XP, which i've never had problems with.
Running an image overnight of my main XP system and will wipe that system and install Vista sometime later today or tomorrow. God Bless Microsoft.
Looks like April for me too... UH Computing website: Microsoft Vista and Microsoft Office are expected to be available for individual purchase (faculty and staff for working at home, and all student purchases) in April, 2007. Our colleges IT guys said they won't install Vista on our work systems until at least January 2008.
Why would anyone actually buy Vista or any ratail OS for that matter. Just get it with a new machine and its cheaper that way.
Any IT shop that plans to do a mass upgrade to Vista within the next two years is stupid. You always wait until the second service pack comes out.
I didn't get Vista, but I got Office 2007. Thing is sweet. Same basic features, but looks really nice, and is much easier to use.
I've kind of let myself fall out of the loop when it comes to hard core IT stuff. Is it true that you simply can't do a clean install of Vista with an upgrade license? I know you have to have a full install of XP updated to SP2 to even use the upgrade disk, but will it not then format the HD before installing, or will it only take the upgrade route?
I had a hard time getting used to the tool bar so I scrapped it. Do you use office heavily, and if so, how long did it take you to get used to it?
I used Excel all day, lots of Word from time to time. It did take a short while, but if you spend an hour or so looking at each tab, you can get a good feel for where the relocated stuff is at.
Wow, you got rid of the tool bar? I had the Office 2007 demo for a few months, and I absolutely loved the ribbon. It was very intuitive and made features much easier to find. Definitely an evolutionary step up, in my book.
I'll wait until they have Vista SE or some form of the un-bugged one that will eventually show up... like the Service Pack 2 on xp...
I don't doubt that I would have gotten used to it and loved it, but with my job and amount of responsibilities, it is imperative that I get my excel work done very quickly. also certain things like borders had some annoying quirks that weren't there in previous versions of excel and i couldn't keep wasting time getting used to the program.
Most companies are exclusively selling Vista. You can get XP Pro on the Dell Precistion Workstation 690. It features an Intel Xeon processor.
