As long as you have a .edu email address, you can get Windows 7 direct from Microsoft for around $30-$40. Not sure about the Ultimate, though.
im using xp right now with a core 2 duo t5750 2.00ghz 2gb ram. how much slower (if at all) will 7 run on it?
Call Microsoft's Store directly at 1.877.696.7786 which gets you a mailed DVD for $34.99 + local tax. Ultimate Steal $29 for windows 7 pro through Digital River. http://windows7.digitalriver.com/store/mswpus/en_US/DisplayHomePage
just know that if you do digital river, you'll have to make a boot disc. those downloads are jacked up
LMAO..........I have an old PC in my house, been using it as an experiment desktop for old Windows OS.... For me, its still XP
Since I am looking at upgrading, I had my wife, who works for a university, check the bookstore where she works. They do not carry software, but gave her a flyer for a place they use, that has edu discounts. So I checked it out. They are offering Ultimate 64 for 1 penny less than the retail price (They did however have some other software at very reduced prices). I guess I will wait until after Christmas and see what I can do since it looks like th emicrosoft edu program only has the home version.
Wish I could do that, but student center keeps record and only allows us 1 piece of software per item per semester. :/
If you guys need more than 2 copies, why dont you get a technet subscription for $260. You get 10 keys for every single piece of microsoft software that don't expire. Even if you don't need 10 keys, split the sub with a friend and you're paying less than you would retail.
The problem with that is don't you have to annually renew your subscription in order to "legally" keep using the software? Essentially, once your subscription expires, you are required to remove any of the software that was acquired via the TechNet subscription from your machines.
Ok I had a copy of the RC that you can try for a few months, I have the key and everything but my ISO was a bad file. Anyone know where I can get a copy of the Ultimate x64 RC ISO file again. Microsoft obviously doesn't have their download site up for it any longer. I am not looking for a pirated copy or a free code. I actually plan on buying it but can't sink the money until after the first of the year. I wanted to get a head start using it though, so I need a working ISO. Any help would be appreciated.
I've been running Windows 7 for about a week now and it's awesome. It runs much smoother than Vista and all the new UI features are great. Granted quite a few were lifted from OS X but they did some things even better (Aero peek for example). It's not enough to make me switch back from using a Mac as my main computer, but I actually like using my Windows machine again. I'm glad they're closing the gap.
Did a fresh install on an old machine from work and so far it's running very very smooth (on an Athlon 64 with 2 GBs of RAM even). Very impressive so far, and I like how easily it found most of the drivers after the install and went out and searched for other ones I needed when plugging in the USB devices. Will need to spend more time to dig into it, but so far so good.
I ran the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor and it said my current graphics adapter won't support Windows Aero Interface.
