That would depend on what your personal use would be wouldn't it? :)

Gee, I want to use Photoshop with oodles of horsepower, or I want to run an FTP/WWW server at home. Use WinMe...

    ... err... no

    Three things:

    1) W2K is the superior platform vs. XP and ME.
    2) For personal use, ME is tolerable.
    3) XP is a major accident(s) waiting to happen.

Deduction: Gaming and multimedia should be left for consoles and HDTV. Go with W2K.

One more thing. Someone earlier in the post mentioned something about W2K networking and security...

Well, W2K networking SUCKS. ADS is a joke.

I dont want to have to deal with getting new software and the only mac I would get is the TiBook b/c that is sweet as hell and better then any PC laptop out.

Yes, win2k supports USB just fine. To whoever asked about 512 being enough ram, I have 384 at the moment and 2k is running just fine here, even on an older cpu (450). Also, about which is better for gaming, I have to go with win2k, mainly because the OpenGL and DirectX subsystems on both OS's are virtually identical and you have a much more robust OS under you in 2k.

    ------

I've also never had a game fail to install in win2k.

Hey Guys thanks again for all of your suggestions. As I said I ordered win2k and I am loving it. I've never had any lock ups or crashes in the 2 weeks since I got it. BTW Office XP is nice but not worth the upgrade from 2k.

I am looking forward to winXP however b/c that will be a major upgrade. I am worried about it though and will probably run it on my laptop for a while first to make sure it doesnt cause any problems. I've talked to some friends who were running winXP beta and they said it was definatly worth the upgrade.

I have Win2k, 98SE and ME on my computer and my preference is Windows 2000, without a doubt. I have the other two for games alone, but WinME has so many memory leaks that it can't always be counted on for games.

One note, though - make sure you have your hard drive's driver on a floppy disk before you install Windows 2000 cleanly (i.e. not upgrading - and even then you may need it). It does not do a very good job at finding UDMA100 drives at all (though UDMA66 drives it handles fine) and you'll have to put in the driver disk at the beginning of setup and manually install a 3rd party driver most likely (sounds harder than it is).
