Athletic dunks for no reason doesn't really impress me, unless it's a little guy or something. Even if your running away with the game, don't miss the shot when you don't have to. The other team isn't going to be intimidated. Now, if an athletic dunk/play is required to make the play, that's ten times better then a dunk on a breakaway. Not only because it has to be done to get the points, but the intimidation factor is there. Always dunk over Yao if you can. As far as blocking goes, blocking it out of bounds really isn't that much more intimidating, especially if they still score. If you blocker gets enough of the ball to throw it out, he's got enough to fully control it. At least, that's how I see it. Not saying this stuff bothers me really, just that I'm more interested in winning however it takes then seeing a show.
Third row blocks serve a purpose. It will make you think twice about driving into the lane. It makes you take low percentage jumpers instead of challenging for a layup. Trust me, I know.
Does anyone realize Kevin Martin throws down the softest dunks? Just once I'd like to see him throw it down with some authority. I know he's a great player and very smart and efficient, but he almost seems robotic in his playing style. He also has the same facial expression. Just once i'd like to see him show some emotion.
Man basketball is a beautiful game. Why don't play like it? Player that can dunk the best and swat the best are usually crowd's favs. Players overshow sometimes but some coaches actually respect that.
