simple question: who decided to evade tax, Morey or Alexander/TF/Philly ownership?

Sixers don't want picks, they want impact players. Minnesota is giving up the three picks for Simmons, they just get re-routed to the Rockets for facilitating the trade. Not sure it would work exactly as laid out, but that's the reason the Rockets insert themselves in such a trade. They get more than the could straight up for Wood because the trade can't be made without them.

I'm not a real big fan of trading Wood right now, but if you can stockpile that many picks, I can be persuaded. That's how you cash in for the next big name that becomes available.

I worked up a scenario that I don't know that I'm in love with, but it works....

    76ers get:
    DeAngelo Russell
    Christian Wood
    2nd RP from Rockets

    Wolves get:
    Simmons

    Rockets get:
    Tyrese Maxey
    Jaden McDaniels
    FRP from Minnesota

To be fair, Vucevic is a 2-time all-star (I know, doesn't mean much, but still) and he's been a double-double for a couple of years now. It's hard to compare the two.

If Wood won't commit to resigning or extending his contract, you'd think they'd have no choice but to trade him.

I usually agree with you or your argument is convincing enough for me to see your point of view, so I'm not saying you're wrong but imo Maxey is a 21 year old stud. That's exactly the kind of prospect we could only hope for in a Wood trade. With Green and KPJ we would have to make some development decisions and I won't go into those, but with where we are in a rebuild talent accumulation is really important.

What do you think we could get for Wood that would beat Maxey?

Lol Tillman and it was soo obvious. No one else had anything to gain from it. You think Morey liked giving out those fake incentive contracts to do salary cap gymnastics for fun?

Who stood to benefit the most from the Rockets avoiding the luxury tax?

Can’t believe sixers would do this. It’s a bit of a stretch by me that they even want Wood as a big part of the trade.

Agreed re: Maxey. In fact I think Philly is extremely unlikely to give him up in any scenario!!

The other thing is that if your trade pans out, suddenly we are looking at 4 young prospects in the backcourt with (still) no big guys to speak of.

    I am confusion.
Wouldnt Wood + Embiid = “Two Bigs” lineup?
    I thought that don’t work.

    D-Rock,

I think if you take the time to read the entire exchange you will understand my confusion.

I originally posted about Minnesota's hypothetical starting 5. You insinuated that Barnes and Simmons can't play together. I responded that I think Barnes is a pretty all-around player that can play with anyone, as he doesn't have any significant weaknesses. Then you said that sure, Barnes and Simmons can co-exist, but your point is that they can't play with Tate. I responded that Tate is irrelevant to the conversation. Then you said that Barnes and Simmons can't co-exist and that you were only saying that Tate is a similar player?

Go back and read the entire exchange, and I think you'll understand my confusion.

I'm sure the flexibility issue will be worked out as time passes. The shooting and ceiling situations will not be an issue, imo. Putting him at PF would mostly put him in post-up scenarios where he would only have to concentrate on post scoring and dishing it out to the shooters (KPJ, Green, Wood, Tate, Brooks, Gary's son etc.) around him. Also, our starting lineup is offense heavy and could use his allstar level defense. He also has an abundance of shooting experts here who can help him along the way. Especially now that there's an added urgency for him to have better shooting. I am willing to bet that his passing prowess would bode well with our new spacing game.

I can't see either one of these teams wanting Wood.

I think it's more likely the Rockets try to use Gordon and/or Wall

Spacing. All about spacing. Those two together would probably be pretty dominant.
