I believe a buy out actually gives him less money, assuming that the Cavs won't pay him anything more than a vet minimum. The buyout isn't for 100% of the money you're owed. It's some percentage of that, whereas a trade would mean that he would be paid 100% of the remainder of his contract.

So, he's basically saying that if he's gonna take a pay cut, he wants to go to the Cavs and have a high chance of getting a ring. However, if he's not going to the Cavs, then he wants all his $.

Exactly, just like with Dwight and now CP3 the Rockets are never the favorites to land a big time guy.

That's why when it happens it sends shockwaves.

I don't understand this either. When a player is bought out, isn't he signing a new deal with a new team with money that is independent of the buy out? If he is bought out for $40mm, can't he sign for two years $30mm or something to make even more than the $54 he is owed over 2 years? Does it stack or does some of the money from the new deal get taken out from what the Knicks owe? I don't see how he would request a buy out for Cavs, but trade for Houston?

Wouldn't the Rockets or other teams be able to give him more money though? If he took the $40mm and went elsewhere on a deal well above minimum he would get the same or more than he is owed, all he would need is a 2 year $14mm deal without even considering tax differentials.

the heat are a good team.... dragic and whiteside are legit and they have a bunch of underrated role players. that said he wont go there because they wouldnt be title contenders even with hayward, but they are good.

I've never been a Carmelo fan. Yes he's a star and he's a damn fine offensive weapon, but is he really the 3rd star that works with Harden and CP3? Is he a Houston kind of guy? Can he get along w/ D'Antonio in Houston when he couldn't in NY?

After Harden's breakdown in San Antonio series, I started wondering if he was a Houston kind of player. I want to believe he is and that he's the guy that can be a part of our dream to be a city of champions again. But it was clear he needed help and someone who could help lead the team and him. I believe CP3 is the right kind of guy. At first I wasn't thinking of the fit, but its clear we needed another playmaker, so DM simply went and got the best in the league.

What is a Houston kind of player you ask? In my mind it's guys like Murphy, Rudy T, Newlin, Malone, Hakeem, Thorpe, Drexler, Cassell, Mad Max, Elle, Scola, Bev--players who never quit and left EVERYTHING on the court. CP3 is that kind of guy. On our current roster Ariza, Nene and Gordon give it everything they have. I think Capela is close, but is still learning what it takes, and maybe that where James is as well. CP3 knows his window is closing and must believe Harden has the potential to be even more dominate with him by his side. That's pretty special.

I also believe that both of them are recruiting their asses off behind the scenes right now. I mean, wouldn't you? PG or Hayward would be great as the 3. I'd prefer PG, but if the risk is too great he would leave, I would chose Hayward. Given, we have no mention of a visit GH must not be in play for us. So that leaves PG. As some of said, DM probably already has our offer on the table and Indy is trying to squeeze more out of CLE or BOS. This is where PG could step in with some encouragement from CP3/James and say, I've changed my mind and say he only wants to go to HOU. If that happens, who would sacrifice any assets for him, but us?

Milsap would be a great addition to our front line, depending on the cost. If we can't make those plays, then DM must have a couple of other options that none of us have considered #UPHISSLEEVE. I think the next few days will be like watching the Fast and Furious series one after another--hopefully we win the races to make us a champion city once more.

if melo is bought out its no set number.

He could be bought out in full or he could be bought out for cheap.

It's up to the owner and player to negotiate to my understanding.

But if let's say he was bought out for 40 of the 54m.

I think he's free to do whatever and he can sign for however much he wants. It's when the contract is Stretched out like the pistons did with Josh smith that the new salary does cheapen what, in this case the pistons would be paying smith.

IT: So there's this guy, tell me a little bit about him, Carmelo Anthony, one of the best scorers i've ever seen.

Nene: Carmelo man... He's a guy who could've been the best player in the league, the way he uses his body, the accuracy on his shots, the variation of dribbles and shots that he has, and his low post fundamentals...

IT: And he's insane on the post, his 6 inch jab step is the best in the league...

Nene: Yeah he is simply the best down there, but is just too selfish, he can't make his teammates better, if he did that he could've been the best in the league. Oh, and if he played defense... Because he knows how to guard people, i played with him for 8 years, so i know...

Nene talking about Carmelo as the No 1 guy.... That has passed.....33 years old....3rd option is pretty cool.

The best would be on a short term deal.

First of all, you gotta re-sign Nene this year -- that's imperative. His contributions to the team have been awesome. There's no question that Nene has earned it.

Now then, the question of should Houston embrace Carmelo?

Well, who better to listen to than a former team when they played at Denver?

    Nene has spoken.

    AMEN.

Look for someone else -- maybe Serge Ibaka or another rim protecting big man. The Rockets need an enforcer/rebounder/shot blocker type -- make it two of them.

I could somewhat reluctantly accept Melo
on the Rockets if he joined us after a buyout, provided if this doesn't
get in the way of acquiring Lebron next year.

Ibaka would have been great 3-4 years ago. I think he has run out of gas, and will be a liability now. Re-signing Nene is a no brainer, like you said. He is as close to Beverley as possible.

    hi Saleem,

Ok, so among the free agents( power forwards) this year, the ones available are too expensive and way past their prime(Millsap and Ibaka).

Should the Rockets stand with their current roster after acquiring Chris Paul. Then wait for next year's crop of free agents and then take chances then?
