[Windhorst] Daryl Morey is not done; is trying to get Melo and Paul George

I feel like a junkie right now. My CP3 high is wearing off and I need more updates about what's next! I'm greedy and want that third star! There are a few things I'm concerned about.

- No news of any of the first or second tier FA (Gordo, Milsap, Blake, etc.) having scheduled meetings with us but they've scheduled meetings with other teams.

- PG is for sure a pipe dream at this point because the asking is too high and others can beat our best without batting an eye.

- Last we heard Houston was going to try to work out a S/T with NY for Melo but I am not enthralled with Anthony being our third star at the cost of Pela or EGo and I don't think they want Ryno. Which leads me to believe that perhaps the silence is around the negotiations falling through.

- On Moreys post-CP3 world tour he is indicating that he likes where we are at for the most part and stated he would like to add a couple more solid pieces. He is saying nothing about wanting to add a third star. While this could be a power play I'm wondering if he is saying this to the media because he knows we are not likely to get a third star since he's already taken his best shots.

Am I being overly pessimistic? I can't see Paul/Harden and solid role players being close to GSW and can't imagine this is it for us, and yet I can't fathom a scenario where we are able to get another star having used all our best chips on Paul.

 

melo can be had but its up to him to force it. hes got make enough stink they just want to cut ties ASAP and really start fresh without him or phil jackson. he cant have them being comfortable with keeping him around. just take a deal, or buyout and be done with it. of course in a buyout there is still a chance he chooses the cavs.

 

Just sign role players, don't get desperate and sell your good players for a guy like Melo is what I'd suggest.

 

Sleeves were definitely quiet today.

Hopefully things really start heating up tomorrow.

I've learned to not doubt Daryl Morey. He's pulled off some unthinkable deals in his tenure here and I don't know why we would start to think that it would stop anytime soon.

Well, i'm not sure i remember well, probably not but, didn't we find out that the Rockets were meeting with Horford and Bazemore like the same day they were meeting them?

I'd bet that the first meeting will likely be Millsap. Just a guess and makes some sense because Atlanta has already indicated they are open to a S&T.

Problem is Paul George could hold up free agency as teams need that domino to fall first.

With the Rockets full MLE and bi annual available there are surely going to be a few vets that they meet soon after though.

Full MLE targets.... could they snag Igoudala to take less? Patrick Patterson? PJ Tucker? Bogut?

Morey engineered a blockbuster trade for Chris Farking Paul just yesterday, and some of you are already restless? Lol

Be patient. If I learned anything from watching Jedi Morey over the years is that he waits until an opening and then pounces on it.

Get a drink or smoke a cigar, the view from here is splendid and can only get better.

 

No chance we get Iguoldala, especially for the MLE...he's going to take the money from the Sixers, Jazz or he's going to stay with the Warriors.

The others are definitely gettable imo.

 

I would love Iggy in a Rockets uniform. He obviously takes care of his body and dude still has it.

 

The thing to keep in mind is that if Carmelo is the target, Morey has no choice but to make "we're happy!" as his public position. If he acts desperate for another star, that's all the more reason for NY to play hardball on a potential buyout. On George, I'm pretty confident Indiana has our best offer, and it's just a matter of how that stacks up relative to other teams, when Pritchard wants to move, and the small variable of whether CP3 and James can convince PG behind the scenes to pull some strings.

It's going to be interesting to see how aggressive the Rockets are on MLE targets this weekend if there's no movement on the Carmelo/George front. Because if the Rockets aren't able to get traction on trading for a star, the most likely route would be a potential Carmelo buyout... but there's no way he'd sign for the minimum. Money matters to Melo. They'd need to save the MLE to have a chance there, IMO.

Will be a fine line to walk... certainly, the better MLE targets are likely to sign shortly after July 1, but if the Knicks show no interest in Ryno, saving that MLE may be the only reasonable path Daryl has to a star.

 

I'm pretty sure he said in multiple interviews that he quit the NY job over Carmelo

 

I hope I'm wrong but I have a feeling Millsap will end up in Denver and it's almost a done deal.
I know he's also taking a meeting with the Suns but just from what I heard from Pelton, Duncan and now Keith Smith it seems in the nba circles they think it's very likely if not already arranged.

 

No interesting news or rumor today though .... big let down after yesterdays super high
