[Windhorst] Daryl Morey is not done; is trying to get Melo and Paul George

Yeah it just seems illogical that we have the assets to trade for PG; especially after giving up what we did for Paul.

i could see New York biting on something, but just don't see any way we win the Paul George sweepstakes.

 

Hey man I'm not claiming I'm an expert on this, but I mean we don't have much to pick from here. Literally its Ariza Gordon Ryno and Capela plus non-guaranteeds; and its been determined Ryno isn't very tradable. I just said Ariza rather than Gordon because I assume Indy would prefer expirings. Gordon is an Indy native so maybe, but either way it doesn't increase the value of our package much.

 

I mean I'm following Bimathug's twitter and it's clear that even he is still scrambling to understand Morey's moves so far and what he might have in mind. I'm not going to pretend to understand what Morey has up his sleeve. I'm just going to sit back and watch.

 

If we trade for Paul George it means one of the following:
1) The other teams interested backed out
2) We are making multiple trades and absorbing a bad contract from Indiana that's more important to them than any of the assets they have been offered
3) They are in love with Eric Gordon, Onuaku or the rights to Sergio Llull

We absolutely can't offer a package that is better than what the other teams are offering so something else would have to be in play for us to still get him.

 

We have more than that. We have the rights to Llull, Zhou Qi and Hartenstein too.

 

I don't see the PG13 possibility. We acquired a few players today that didn't go to LAC that will most definitely be involved.

Ariza will NOT be moved. He was one of the main reasons that CP3 decided on Houston. Melo to Houston in a buyout or via trade for Anderson and a 2nd makes sense.

Obviously the buyout is the best case scenario for both Melo and Rockets. That we retain both players that helped us compete last year and add 2 serious weapons to that offense while only losing 2 rotation players.

 

and like i said when a trade actually happens its usually nothing like people predict as if it is that simple, especially when you're dealing with morey who time and time again surprises people with loopholes and moves

 

The only way we win the Paul George sweepstakes is if we either A) convince him to sign the extension here, which eliminates the Celtics or Lakers from wanting to deal for him or B) we get a third team involved.

 

This is very true. Is there a chance that IND would take those overseas stashed players in exchange since they can't really expect to compete at this time?

 

I forgot about Onuaku. Rights to Llull has zero value, come on.
Hartenstein was picked in the 2nd round; if Pacers wanted him they could have probably drafter him.

I don't want paul george on the team wtf that dude's gonna leave us high and dry next year. Melo's only good if he got swapped with Anderson.

Pacers want too much. Why give up Gordon when you can do a S+T with Atlanta and pickup star power toughness in Millsap

 

He's arguably the best player in Europe. I have a very hard time believing it has zero value. I'd actually think a team like the Lakers, Knicks or Heat would believe they could lure him to the NBA.

 

I hope that we do not have to let go of Capela. A rental of Paul George isn't worth giving him up.

 

I guess the big question is are we moving Anderson or not? The Rockets best avenue "I think" to getting Melo in a deal would be essentially a Melo for Ryno swap, but with Ryno going to a 3rd team.

I like the idea of a Utah, NYK, Rox 3 team deal-

Utah gets Ryno
Rox get Melo
NYK get - Diaw (light one year deal), and all the Rockets non guaranteed deals

It works out salary wise, and its MUCH MUCH better for the Knicks to not have to waive Melo and eat 30+ million this year and next to watch a player go to a contender for free.

For the Rockets, you move Anderson because he likely becomes a 20 mil a year bench player right? I think he's got a ton of value to a team like Utah who really needs the shooting around Gobert, Hayward (assuming he resigns), etc. to really open up their offense. I think that's a great get for them where they can absorb him in their capspace, and resign Hayward with his bird rights.

If we want to keep Ryno as a super high priced 6th man, than the avenue for getting Melo is him getting waived, and having to give him the full MLE you'd think. I don't see Melo signing for the vet min. If that's the case, he's probably going to Golden State or Cleveland. He's still a damn good player despite his imperfections so I just don't see a dream of vet min.
