In the last 16 games, the Rockets have gone 7-1 against above .500 teams. Impressive to say the least.
My point is, at the end of the Season they dont place numbers next to your win depicting how many wins were against sub .500 teams.
I did not see this coming - I am not sure anyone did. I am just enjoying it - I refused to be bothered by woulda coulda shoulda - but I understand. Kudos all around to the players who made it happen on the floor, the coaching crew led by Adelman, ou Genius GM, red rowdies and of the poor of the CF.
the wins against portland were big. they were the hot team at the time and they were statement games... small steps... the Blazers fell out the race because we put them there...
The current streak is impressive... it is hard to win 11 straight games against the Heat, but we definitely haven't proved we deserve better than a #6 rank overall. If we were to win a tight game against San Antonio in the forth quarter... that would be proof. We still have a weakness, which is executing in the forth against the very best (AKA CLUTCH).
The winning streak can still be 16 if the Rockets sweep this 5-game homestand. Only Denver is a tough opponent and we play well against them.
But think about it, if Novak had missed that last shot, our streak would have stopped at 8 or 7. Here is someone who hardly played and to hit that final shot has to do with more luck than skills. Also, Utah was the team who beat us in playoffs last year WITH Yao in our lineup. How do you know we would have beaten them in that game if Yao were in the lineup? Remember Boston had like 3 losses after 30 games? Well they would have lost one more if Charlotte didn't miss that final pass in overtime. But then I heard analysts saying how their record could have been PERFECT if it weren't for close losses to Orlando and 2 other teams. WTF?
Nobody now for sure. But last year NO SCOLA, NO LANDRY, NO BONZI (b4 trade) and the most important key NO ADELMAN. And we beat them at the beginning's of the year at their place where the had lost only other 2 times. There is not a guarantee, but we have a better chance to beat anybody with Yao than without him.
We already did beat San Antonio late in the 4th quarter....... This team IS a contender already..... People just need to believe. DD
Yao has made big progress this season, esp in terms of stamina and his consistent performance in the 4th quarter. Plus, our PF Scola and Landry is a huge improvement comparing to last season's Hayes and Juwan Howard. The new coach is also much better at adjustment than JVG. Our back court is also better, we have a better Rafer, a better backup PG at Bobby Jackson, not to mention if we could get B Barry. So stop whining.
What did I whine about? My point to the thread starter is that if he wants to compare what could have been, then he should look at BOTH sides. Okay, say if Yao had played that game and we won, then what about the lucky shot from Novak? If he missed that shot, NO ONE could have blamed him because he's never been in such a situation and it's not expected of him to hit the shot. I'm sure most people were surprised he hit the shot. So if you look at the streak from both sides, that game could have been where our streak had STOPPED.
Exactly. Its not a big game if you win. The Blazers game was a big game, we were behind them in the standings. All of a sudden they have hit a rough patch and that game isnt a big one anymore. The Cav games were big games before the Rockets won. So which is it??? Hornets was biggest game of the year. Not big anymore?? Personally I'd rather go .500 against the (elite)good teams and win most of the games against the bad teams. That gets you into the play-offs with a high seed. Going .500 against the rest of the league, but being 12-4 against the top 4 seeds in the west gets you a seat at home watching the postseason wondering what might have been if you had won those games that didnt really matter against the 24 other teams in the league.
Uuuuhhh... OK, you're right. We held on to a lead against them in the forth quarter. But that was one game after 2 consecutive forth quarter collapses against NO, and Philidephia, so it doesn't count! Weren't you preaching rationality during your "I told you so" phase earlier this week?
I kinda like flying under the radar. With the media and other teams not taking notice, we're able to lull our opponent to sleep and get victories. Now with this winning streak, it brings added pressure and attention.. and that's when we don't play well. I'd much rather sacrifice "respect" from everyone else and continue to be the underdog that no one notices.
