The question is: would you let someone do that to your leg for 2.5 million dollars??

Good for him. I'm glad he did that.

Miami tailback Willis McGahee took out a $2.5 million insurance policy two weeks before he was injured in the Fiesta Bowl and can collect after a year if the injury prevents him from returning to football, a Florida newspaper reported.

What happens if he's healthy enough to return to football but sucks? Say in a year or two, he gets drafted in the 7th round and is a practice player on some team making $50k a year. Does he get his money?

No, he will not recieve the $2.5 mill if he returns whatsoever within a year.

So, his best bet is being drafted in the NFL, getting a decent rookie contract, and then "retiring" like Eric Crouch.

I guess he would keep the money even if he returns to a high-caliber form after the year expires.

I'd say no. Therefore he's going to probably have to take a long, serious look at his future career once his knee is deemed healthy at whether or not going pro is best for his bank account. Its a really sad situation all around.

Sad really isn't the word I'd use. Unfortunate, tough, sure, but sad?

Give me a decision between $2.5 million and a possible NFL career.
