Will you be more likely to go to a game if the Rockets have a more up-tempo style?

    110% correct.

The Pistons - slowest paced team in the league -have something like 200 consecutive game sellout streak going on.

I honestly have a hard time going to most any sporting event. Nine times out of ten, I have a lot more fun (and get more drunk) watching in a sports-bar atmosphere (like BW3s, for example) than I do actually attending a game.

Prices have a lot to do with that. I scored (free) court-side seats few years back for Rockets vs. Lakers. I wouldn't trade that for anything. It was stupefying being that close to Yao and Shaq. Those fckers are HUGE.

Sitting in the nose-bleeds, which is what I can afford, is not my idea of a good time.

    There are exceptions, of course:
    • I was at game 5 of the NLCS when Jeff Kent hit that walk-off homer to put the 'Stros up 3-2. I've never experienced anything as electric as that game.

    • I went to the game when they retired Dream's number. That was special.

    • Opening Day for the Astros is always good fun.

    • I went to opening day for the Texans a couple seasons back when people were still hopeful for them. They lost (of course) to the Chargers. LT ran all over us. It was worth it because, at the time, I was hopeful for them. We all know how that turned out.

    • Some of the most fun I ever had at any sporting event was watching a rugby match in London. We got utterly wasted before the game, continued the process during the game, and then went to celebrate because London beat Newcastle. That was one hell of a night.
To answer the question, yes, I would be more likely to attend a game if it were more fun to watch. Despite their record under JVG, and as good as they could be at times, watching them was pretty brutal. Still though, price is much more of a determining factor for me than anything else.

I have gone to 15, 27, 22, and 24 games respectively the first four years at the TC plus every playoff game. This year I upgraded my mini plan to full season. To me, it doesnt matter what style they play. I will always go and support the Rockets.

It sure does make it more fun if they score a lot points, however, wins are the most important. The worst season in the TC was 2005-06. It felt like a morgue in there sometimes.

i'd go to games just to watch that video with the history of the team every time.

    i'd go if they were 1-81 (doesn't mean i wouldn't b*tch about it).

Well, I felt a ray of hope after that game we had against Philly, it felt like we just scored, we played D, but offense was the number one goal. I remember we were up by something like 30 int he 4th, I watched until that last second just to watch the B team. If we win playing 100% of the time, scoring and D, there is no reason not to watch.

i really hope do what dallas did after they hired avery johnson. they played great offense before him but after that they played much better defense while still maintaining a fluid offense. we played awesome defense (obviously didnt play d during the playoffs though) and hopefully by hiring RA we're going to be more efficient at the offense.

I said this in another thread, but it bears repeating here. All things being equal, I'll take the up-tempo style. However, if they could win a title with Uglyball, so be it.

I agree it is mostly about talent, but I think there is also an element of maximizing talent in a way that makes you competitive every night. There were times last year when I felt like it was just a slog fest. To win meant beating the opponent into submission before you got beaten down yourself.

That's fine if those are the occassional games, not the norm. It is likely that if we do nothing, we'll still win around 50 games and go to the playoffs and lose. But, if that is what we get, better to do it with a team that resembles NBA offense. If we can win and do it ugly, that's fine too.

But, I'll be totally honest here. I can't the Detroit/Cleveland beyond a few minutes because it is so damn boring. Utah/SA is mildly more entertaining. But, if it were Phoenix, Golden State or Dallas playing right now, I'd probably be glued to the tv because THAT is the basketball I grew up watching. That is the kind of basketball that began my love for the game in the first place.

I loved watching the Rockets beat the Knicks to win a title, but would I have watched that series if I wasn't a Rocket fan? Probably not.

We won those 52 games with Yao and Tracy barely playing a third of the season together. And in the games they played together, we won 70% of the games. I wouldn't call that topping out at 52 wins.

And player movements should have been expected, with or without JVG returning.

I can only afford 10-15 games per season in the cheap seats, but go even when we're losing. BUT, I don't like to go if T-Mac isn't playing. The team doesn't do much without him.

um, it gets u on national TV. there are a lot of rocket fans around the world. but if JVG is your coach, ur not gonna be on TV a lot. it's BORING to watch.

why can't u be entertaining and win at the same time? bulls? lakers? suns? mavs? hell, spurs are exciting now. jazz too.

I guess it's kind of like my mom's idea of diet. If it tastes good, it can't be healthy for you. :)

now that's not true all the time. i want houston to be the kind of team most ppl be like, "man, that team is fun to watch. i'll catch them next time they're on TV."

we have tmac and yao. i don't know how JVG can afford to make us one of the most boring teams in the L.

I would be more likely to go to a game if they were no longer televised.
