I think he will. Seriously there are lots of reasons Yao should be inducted. Most of the ones I can think of until he gets close to a ring, or gets a ring, have to do with China and the jump of international players to the NBA.
It really doesn't make sense to discuss it right now. He will be hof even he never passes the 1st round of playoff in his whole career. So hof would really be due to his nationality but not due to his achievement if that happens.
he'll be in regardless based on what he's done to date and what he did for china getting involved with the nba
well, probably not based on his playing. his is not bad, but certainly not in the top tier of centers ever. but his contribution off the court may push him in. 51% chance in.
Exactly. People have to realize that the Hall of Fame isn't exactly a conglomeration of the "best" players in the history of basketball. It also includes important historical figures, who represents or facilitated change in the sport. That's why Yao will make it - it's not based on basketball merit.
We've had a massive Debby Downer epidemic going on across this board for a while now. The question was simple: Do you think he'll make it to the HOF? In other words, do you think his career will end up good enough to make it to the HOF when it's all said and done? Stop complicating things with your pessimism. I voted Yes, because I think his career will be good enough for him to join.
No Chance. Yao will not play long enough to put up HOF numbers. As injury prone as he is, his career will be cut short
Based on his career stats and Basketball Reference's somewhat r****ded way of calculating (height as a factor pretty much brings Yao down a lot and off-court isin't considered at all), Yao has a 5% chance of making it into the HOF, that is if he never played a NBA game again. McGrady, if anyone's interested, has a 98% chance.
Yes...no matter what happens he will probably be in the HOF, because he is somewhat of a pioneer, like Dirk Nowitzki, Aryvdas Sabonis, and Drazen Petrovic. It's not always about numbers and stats. Other Reasons that will help his case: ----------------------------------------------- 1) His career averages are near 20 and 10. That's like hitting .300 lifetime in baseball or having over 550 home runs. 2) His numbers compare favorably to centers, like Mourning, Cowens, Parish, and Walton. He's been much stronger and more important center than players, like Seikaly, Smits, and Daughtery. 3) In a very weak decade for centers, he has been about the best, since Shaq was in decline and Dwight is still fairly young. Beyond the media bias and certain vitrolic fans, he has been the best NBA center, since 2004. He has 7 all-star nominations (6x time all star) and 4 All NBA teams. 4) He's actually a very popular player, outside of China. He has had more All-Star paper ballot votes than any other center in the NBA for the last seven years. 5) If Houston wins a title, it will probably would just cement his status, a little more, maybe to media critics. 6) He may not go in with a strong class of players, since most of the great centers of 90s will probably already been in HOF by the time he retires. He's going to be in the class with players who were drafted from 99 - 04 who didn't come straight from high school (since they are probably 4 to 7 years younger than Yao).
I think he'll get in for being a good player but more importantly being an ambassador for Chinese basketball. Wang Zhizhi was a first, but Yao was the first real player to garner so much attention. He'll get in if only because of that. He's a world class athlete.
only if they move it from Springfield to Shanghai. Watching him sometimes I wonder how he is playing in the NBA, he's slowfooted, has poor reaction times and poor endurance. Just not an elite athlete.
