maybe, maybe not.. keep in mind that this is the Basketball HOF.. not the NBA HOF... at this point if his career ended today I would say he's not a first ballot HOF

As of right now, I think it's a toss up. If he plays a few more years with similar stats and hopefully more playoff success then it will be a lock. Especially if they take into account everything that he's done outside the court and I guess they will consider his pre-NBA playing career and olympics.

Yao will make it because of his popularity. If he doesn't make it to the HOF, China will send a nuke to the U.S.

I thought this post is funny, but do not think Yao can make it if he can not pass the first round. By the way, is it too early to talk the HOF for Yao?

I don't think so. I love the guy, but I don't think he will be able to play long enough to stack up statistically with the other guys in there at his position. If he gets a ring, maybe. But I don't think so.

It depends on how you look at it. I definitely think he will, but as of now, he hasn't earned it in terms of basketball achievement.

T-Mac was 82% in a report last season. I think if they win a series (and hopefully a championship) they're locks.

Will the number 11 jersey be retired after Yao finished his career?

OT: I have question about the all-star games.

How come some fans always think Yao only gets in, because of CHinese votes?

Chinese is one part, can you deny Yao is a good player. For these years,Yao has conquered many Americans. If he is a American, can so many fans be hostile towards him

Reason, I ask, he actually beat Shaq in American and Canadian paper ballots in '04, and has been the top draws at center. Yet, the only reason he starts in the all-star game is because he is Chinese. Even though, there are millions of fans across China, and yet he only wins each year by couple of million or thousands. If his fan base was as strong as some critics and fans say, because of the Chinese fan vote wouldn't you expect him to lead every year.

I wouldn't think so, but he gets often criticizes and is the butt of alot jokes for 20 and 10 player. But the truth is the center position sucks so much that Yao is the only appropriate choice, he's popular and very good player. The only one at center outside of Dwight Howard (who only emerged last year).

I think it is alot, like the "Obama won, because of the black vote" argument (even though about the same number of people voted in this election as 2004 and Obama's percentages for black population were the same as Kerry's). It can be somewhat true, but mostly false. Simplified so much, without look at actual demographics or real data.

I think fans and analyst are simple-minded enough to just look at Yao and say he only got in, because he's Chinese. Yet, if you look at his numbers, a solid 20-10 or if you watch the Rockets, you can tell he is one of the better centers in the league. IF you don't vote for Yao at center, then how is the next best in line...Marcus Camby, Chris Kaman, Oberto, and etc.

You said is true, even when Yao played very well, these are still many people critic him,for example, this China have earthquaked,Yao donated 2-million-yuan,while someone said Yao have donated one million dallars when US's Katrina hurricane. This thing puzzled Yao a lot, yeah, how many one donate is all depend on himself. That called Yao HEI.But you said Yao lead the votes every year is not true, last year the leader was Garnett, not Yao,something you can sure is Yao can start in ALL-STAR,partly due to he is a Chinese.
Yao can start also because his basketball gifts and skills. If not how can he in the ALL-STAR roster? He is a good player and popular.
Centers are scarce in today's league, that's why centers can make more money even though their skills are not so good, like Camby,Kaman,Bynum, honestly speaking, some of them are overrated. While you see Yao's statistical data,he can 20 and 10 easily past seasons. So you can say he did it all by himself.
