That;s the thing I fear, I visit a lot of football boards and nationally the Texans are looked upon as a joke of a franchise and they keep digging the hole with questionable moves; at some point I grow tired of the entire world seeing something one way and the Texans doing the complete opposite. It's like, and a lot of this I put on Casserly, they view themselves as smarter than everyone else and want to be able to say I told you so to their inner click of football guys by making this great pick that only they saw. It hasn't, unforntunately for us, even come close to happening yet. I don't think many of us realize that we are thought of on the same level of the Cards and bungles of year's past. That is something we have got rid ourselves of fast before perception becomes reality, and believe me, it is not that far away.
With the 5th pick in the NFL 2007 draft the Houston Texans select ...JEFF SAMARDZIJA from the University of Notre Dame.
I dont really know about his senior year in college but i heard it didnt start off too good. Does anyone know if he looked really ineffective in those too? IF he did, then maybe once he learns our system, he will get his shine on around week 5-6.
Reading these criticisms of Mario reminds of something Jack Nicklaus wrote in his autobiography. It's been a long time and I'm too lazy or busy to go back and check, but here's what I remember: when Jack was learning to play golf, his first priority was to hit it far. His developing swing was never restrained for accuracy. It was only after he could hit it far regularly that the other elements of the game came into play. I'm not in Texas so I don't see any Texan games and NC State was not on television too much, so I haven't even see Mario play to my knowledge. Maybe they should just let Mario tee off and play with some abandon and then teach him the scheme. May just make him a pass-rushing specialist for the first third of the season. It might give him some confidence and make him hungry, too. Just an uninformed idea...
for anyone who hasn't seen him other than suck with the texans the front office probably watched this on youtube right after negotiations with bush fell apart.. <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/D5R8y4gxE88"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/D5R8y4gxE88" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> hope he picks it up soon...
I want video of him up against Miami, Virginia, Va Tech, and Florida St. I really want to see how/if he fared against Winston and Fergueson.
After watching that video I can only hope that he is injured or something right now because he at least looks somewhat explosive and nimble in that vid. Watching him Sunday he looked like his shoes were filled with concrete, super slow. Maybe he bulked up too much in preperation for the NFL?
Well, I haven't seen THAT guy show up on any of the plays I've watched. THAT guy looks like a beast. Where is THAT guy?
Based on the video provided i can conclude one thing. Maryland's OL is garbage, almost as bad as OU's. I guess Maryland only does 1 thing best ...crabcakes.
Rookies make mistakes and miss assignments. Mario Williams just can't move very fast and doesn't look explosive. I think that is the concern more than anything.
Isn't a lot of his success predicated on the secondary's ability to take away the passing lanes/receivers? IMO if the Texans have a blanket affect on the receivers, Mario will reach the cube.
he looks a bit slow out there. Watching Jevon Kearse and then watching Wario, it's like night and day. Maybe he just needs to work on his technique and gain more exp. Hopefully it'll get better...
Tell me Saint Louis...who should we have traded the pick to? Can you name me teams that wanted to move up and what they were willing to give up? The Texans said that teams weren't interested in moving up as much as they thought they would, and as the Top 10 picks in the draft showed, no teams did. Even Matt Leinart fell to #10 w/o anyone moving up to get him. You complain that we didn't trade the pick but you fail to recognize that there were no offers good enough to trade down. Even the Saint's front office said that they were entertaining offers for Bush after we picked Mario and that the offers just weren't good enough. Some people say that we could have traded down and gotten Mario, yet every report out of NO was that they were going to take him with the #2 if Bush wasn't there. BTW Saint Louis, who do you think is the better team? The Browns or the Eagles?
Well considering that I don't work for the Texans front office, not I can't tell you what was entertained for the first pick. I'm looking at the Texans as an outsider, for all I care the Texans could go 0-16 every year. It would make my dad grumpy, but no problem for me. I'm looking at a franchise that has basically wasted its first few years in the league. The Texans have done everything wrong from the beginning. You build a championship from the offensive line up. If the Texans wanted to win now, then picking Bush would have given them an explosive weapon out of the backfield. At least the team would have been remotely interesting to watch. Right now the Texans are doing a good job of emulating the Browns as an expansion franchise. Suck year in and year out. If the last line didn't answer your last question well enough, the Eagles are better then the Browns. If it makes you feel any better the Texans and Browns are probably better then the Packers and Titans.
