I've stopped hoping Bonzz will play. It does nothing but get my hopes up and piss me off in the end. Right now, Bonzz isn't even a part of the team to me. If he ever plays, then good.. if he doesn't.. who is he again?
The problem is that Stromile played for us. Bonzi hasn't. I still think that Snyder will struggle to get back into the rotation, but will still play before Bonzi. He has problems...it doesn't take that long to get back into the shape that he SHOULD"VE been before the season starts.
I don't care how good he is...but this statement got me pissed, who else remembers this? "I didn't come to run a marathon, I came to play basketball."
Well, the other day I posted what Dennis Lindsey said on the 610 interview in reference to the Bonzi situation. Just as a recap or for those who may have missed it, he said, "Sometimes as an organization you do the right thing and it just doesn't work out." Well, here is JVG's quote from a newspaper in south Florida: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Heat may not have lost out on all that much when it lost free-agent guard Bonzi Wells to the Rockets. Wells has appeared in only two games for Houston, with conditioning an ongoing concern. "Sometimes things don't work exactly as planned," coach Jeff Van Gundy said. Getting Wells to buy in has been difficult, including a comment during a recent TNT interview that he did not come to Houston "to run marathons." By rule, Wells cannot be traded until three months after his Oct. 2 signing. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/...0,2893128.column?page=2&coll=sfla-sports-heat ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Again, I was of the thought process that it's nowhere as bad as it seemed and it will work itself out, but these comments coming from the organization lately has me very concerned.
Are there no reporters in Houston that can get to the bottom of the situation? I would think that this would be a hot topic for journalists in Houston. So no one can get an interview with Bonzi?
Bonzi Wells is not walking through that door, fans. And if you expect him to walk through that door, he's going to be fat and irritable and walking with a noticeable limp in his right thigh.
Thanks for the clarification, I'm glad JVG doesn't play bonzi. I wouldn't want a coach thats allows Wells to play after what he said alone. Forget about the fact that he's still out of shape.
Fair enough, IC... I guess if I had to make a prediction based on IC's reluctance to elaborate on his initial post, I would say that the Bonzi experiment has failed. First it was Derek Anderson and now Bonzi...Houston is developing quite the reputation around the league. I am very, very worried that potential free agents are taking note, at least I am more worried about that than the prospect of losing Bonzi.
Maybe so. Cato, Anderson, and now it seems Wells, have all had issues before and after joining JVG and the Rockets. I'm not worried in the least bit about the message this is sending. Work hard, be a team player, stay in shape, be on time, and you'll be in fine.
you really dont have to have a lovefest with all your players to utilize them. This is an NBA team trying to win a championship not a kumbayah camp. JVG is a good coach but his inflexibility is maddening. He seems to take player misbehavior very very personally. I hope we get good value for Bonzi, because without a third reliable scorer, we may very well have a first round exit in the playoffs.
i voted that i hope he plays. i still think bonzi can really open up the rockets offensive game. i don't know why everyone is hating on bonzi but he can really help us. i hope we don't trade him. cause we won't get a player of equal value back in return. also keep in mind... we aren't gettin any lottery picks anytime soon! we need all the athletic veteran experience we can find!
Not good to see a coah put his own feelings above winning....not good at all. Bonzi would help this team a lot.
If he turns it around he can be a great asset, but I'm not counting on it. It's everyone's loss, but not JVG's fault.
Uh you can't say whose fault it is unless you are at practice daily and see what the true situation is. Furthermore, Van Gundy has a lot of blame in this. A pro coach has to get the most out of his talent on the roster, and Bonzi had no problems producing in Portland, Sacramento, and Memphis. I find it highly skeptical that he signs a contract this offseason and says screw everything, I don't care if I ever get in shape again or play this season. Yes, it's Wells fault for not coming to camp in shape, but it's Van Gundy's fault to not at least tell people what is going on in practice with him. Bonzi Wells is the difference between being another good team, or being a great team, and to see the situation playing out like this is a joke. CD/Morey need to sit Van Gundy and Wells down and make them clear the air(regardless of how they handle the intervention), and get a solution that gets bonzi ready to rock and roll on the court for the Rockets asap. Van Gundy has pissed off more than a few players in his time, and this is not college, where the coach gets to play dictator. Giving him a free pass here is ludicrous.
Give me a break. How would you feel if all you ever did was practice and not see any meaningful regular game minutes? Bonzi is not a rookie, he knows the NBA grind and what he needs to do to be ready to play. Something is really fishy in all this and I don't think JVG is blameless at all, far from it actually.
