I never wanted Bonzi in the first place (1 playoff series doesn't impress me anymore, I still remember Austin Croshere), but since we are paying him millions of dollars, I hope we get some kind of return, either with Bonzi producing on the court or in some kind of trade package (maybe moving Bonzi and Juwon for an expiring contract).
I said this in the initial Bonzi thread. The Bonzi signing is just like the Stromile Swift signing. Everybody got all excited and overreacted as if we just signed the missing piece. The Bonzi and the Swift signing are equilavent because neither of them had any impact whatsoever. Bonzi doesn't care about basketball. He played hard last year for a contract. I doubt he plays at all for us this year and if he does, he won't make much of an impact.
I think Gandy will give him a chance or T-mac will never be able to lure anyone else to take a pay cut and join Rockets in the future.
Well at this point I dont even think Bonzi is on the active list. Bonzi will be a sleeper! 2nd half of the season.
Come on guys. Bonzi Wells is a MUCH better player than Stromile in almost every phase of the game. He is exactly what we need. A big 2 guard who can score inside, finish around the hoop, and get to the line. A spark off the bench who can take the pressure off of Yao and Tmac if one of them is struggling. Oh yeah and hes a pretty good rebounder and defender too. He will return and make nice contributions soon enough. We need him.
IC2000, Can you elaborate a bit more on your initial post? I thought you were the one saying that he's back working out with the team and making good progress...and now you suddenly insinuate that it isn't the case anymore? Always appreciate your insight, it's great having insiders on the BBS.
Good thought, but I doubt it since he got some minutes early in the season. I would guess Bonzi is just planning on playing after the all star break to begin showcasing himself for '07 free agency.
He better bust his butt integrating himself in this team. We definitely have some holes to fill, but we are coming together quite nicely.
I'm not really understanding what's going on with Bonzi. I'd've thought the lack o substantial offers this summer would've sent a clear messsage to Bonzi that teams have grown weary of overpaying underperforming prima-donnas (see York, New), especially considering how deep the 3 is league wide. I'd've though the lack of substantial offers would've demonstrated to Bonzi that teams have grown weary of his anti-social on & off court antics. I'd've though that a man playing for a strong '07 deal would be motivated, eager even to get on the court and demonstrate his value, fake if he has to good social graces if the millions were that important Guess not. I don't see the point in dealing Bonzi unless it nets the scoring Bonzi was supposed to provide. As much as we need Bonzi, he needs to be playing to establish his market value. I think he'll come around soon and return to the fold; otherwise, he'll be looking at another 2.5M deal next summer.
the team is doing pretty good now, and the team chemstry is great. If Bonzi is at risk to destroy the team chemistry, we better trade him, i mean, he will be a big bait for a decent 4 (by packing him with some other players), or 1 to 1 for a decent backup C. We need a big man at 4/5.
I agree. Especially with Kirk Snyder going down. We really missed having another athletic wing player in the game against PHO. Also, this organization really has Bonzi painted in a corner, so I think he'll get over his attitude problem and get in shape. If he doesn't, and we don't get anything good via a trade offer, then realistically we could bench him for the season, thus decreasing his free agent value next summer to about a 1/3 of the offer the Kings made this summer. Plus, with Bonzi out, Billy gets to develop. With the type of player Billy is, I think he has to develop by getting minutes, getting used to the speed over here and finding out how to limit his mistakes; rather than in practice. I do want him to play here. He has a nice game when motivated.
I know I've said this before but I'm just dumbfounded! No real news from the Rockets on the situation, which tells me it's much more than a "get in shape" situation. If that's the case, I can't believe Bonzi would intentionally not try and get back on the court, especially with his current contract situation. Man could we use him!
