It is an intriguing question. Wesley, with game and an expiring contract, would become trade bait for help at the 4. Of course I would prefer Bobby Simmons. I might even prefer Bonzi. (Among FAs, unrestricted.) DA (for MoT, ie Mooch/Vin). But, who is it that JVG will want, and CD pursue, in the DW role?
interesting. I could definitely see JVG going after Sprewell if the price was right. They had a very good relationship at NY. JVG loved the energy and attitude Sprewell brought to the team. Sprewell's a 2 not a 3. He was forced to play a 3 at NY because Allen Houston played the same position at the 2. Sprewell found himself at a size disadvantage in most games but played through it with little complaint, IIRC. IMO, JVG would love to have him, but I think it won't happen b/c his asking price will be too high for the Rockets.
hmm...I think DA could be had this summer thru trade. Remeber Mike James, when he is supposed to go to us earlier in the season and later became a part of our team..
if JVG just HAS to go get an ex-knick this offseason.. I'd rather have an allan houston come off the bench.
JVG would love to have him?? Rumor was Spree was out of control and routingly cursed JVG but JVG couln't do much about it because Knicks management was not behind his back. That's one of the reason JVG quit coaching Knicks and want to beat Knicks to death last year when Houston was winning big in the 4th quarter in Madison Garden. You won't see JVG take Spree no matter how cheap he is.
Like two years ago when JVG tried to get in on the Spree deal at the last moment and get him to Houston? Oh, wait..
First of all, I doubt JVG would want to bring in Spree to this team, he just isn't needed. Second, we won't have nearly enough to get him to come to Houston even if we wanted him. He turned down a $7M/yr from the Wolves and was even insulted at the offer.
how will we get him? the MLE will go towards a PG or a PF. if he will accept the LLE to be tmacs backup then sure.
There may not be a utilized MLE unless a trade or two can occur, which might obviate said need for said utilization.
Spree is nothing but a poor man's T-Mac. Wait, let me rephrase that: Spree is nothing but a destitute man's T-Mac. Hmmm... getting close: Spree is nothing but a homeless dude's T-Mac. There, that's more like it!
We have too many old foggies already. We need a bruising power forward who's going to throw some elbows around. That's the top priority. Does anyone know why T-mac plays the 3 instead of the 2?
Sprewell knows his market value has declined considerably. He lost a lot of money turning down $7 million/yr from Minny because he won't get near that much after such a sorry season. My guess is someone will give him the MLE for a year or two and it won't be the Rockets. JVG won't be able to talk Les into that one. Defensively, T-Mac plays the 3 instead of the 2 because it's easier on him. Chasing down quick 2 guards all over the court is tough when you are 6-9 and have to carry the team on your back on the offensive end. In the playoffs near the end of close games, he may guard the 2 position against some teams. On offense, T-Mac doesn't always play the 3 position. It varies a lot after substitutions are made. Last night for example.
As crazy as it sounds.... I am now too the point of not being surprised at anything the Rockets do. With the crazy moves that have been made this season, I am not counting out anything. T_Man
I really think there is a good chance of JVG going after Spree. He's a Van Gundy kind of guy: vet that plays defense. But I sure hope he starts looking for young guys to build the team around Yao and T-Mac for the next 10 years instead of the next two.
