According to nba.com, Sweetney is only 6'8, but 270 lbs. He is an undersized and overweight PF that is always injured. He gets sneezed on by Duncan and has to sit out the next 10 games. Conditioning has alot to do with injury prevention. He doesn't stay in good condition.

There is no way that he can match up with Hayes. Hayes is strong as steel. When Shaq collided into Hayes, Hayes was back in a week. Shaq was out for almost the whole season, because of Chuck. If Sweetney took a hit from Shaq, Sweetney would have been out the whole season and Shaq would have been back in a week.

Whereas Sweetney is the picture of drive and competitive fire, right?

Why trade a mobile fatty for an immobile fatty?

i'd rather take my chances and roll with Bonzi.

I think Jvg and management felt like, hey, we've come this far - and put up with this much - why wouldnt we see if we get any kind of dividend in the playoffs.

if we are realistic about things, we know we are probably less than a 50-50 shot to advance to the second round. I think a motivated Bonzi makes us better, and at worst gives us another offensive option.

Dennis I know you started this thread to divert from the real question..which is how much passing on Mike James hurts us.

sheesh! the last time i heard and seen good things about sweetney was when he was with new york and that was ages ago, where as bonzi already showed flashes of brilliance with the kings and with us (the game without tmac)...i like the trade for big jake

lol, no. I think we do need a backup PG, but James isn't the answer. I'd prefer someone younger, who passes more, and who doesn't have ulterior motives other than what's in the best interest of the team. James just isn't a team player, IMO.

But this isn't a Mike James thread.

I just think Sweetney could help eat up minutes, and he wouldn't do any worse than Bonzi. Sweetney could provide beef in the middle. No one's asking him to guard Dirk, because Battier likely would, but he could grab rebounds, and he's a high percentage shooter with a nice offensive post arsenal.

I just don't like the idea of our playoff PF platooning between Howard and Hayes. Howard is OK and has playoff experience, but Hayes is just too foul-prone to compete consistently. And I also think Snyder would have been just as effective if given the same amount of minutes as Bonzi. Basically, if that trade had went down, it would've opened more playing time for Kirk, and I would be in complete favor of that.

I recall the first time we played Chi this year- Sweetney looked good. He was scoring some and rebounding. He seemed to have good basketball IQ. I was impressed. Surprised Chi would part with him as he is young.

well is sweetney played up to his potential (much like bonzi) then he could help this team. but that guy needs to seriously lose some weight. He is pretty good in the low post, but he wasnt playing in chicago where they have no low post scoring threat...that should say something.

I don't think it will come to haunt the Rockets, but I do know that several of the all you can eat buffet's are breathing a collective sigh of relief.

Sweetney is more an Oliver Miller type center then a PF, he would play best with a PF that doesn't operate alot down low. We need an athlete down low who can take the ball strong to the hoop on double teams and help with rebounding.

Yeah, it will haunt us. Just like the teams that were haunted by passing up on Oliver Miller and Thomas "2 Sandwiches" Hamilton. ;)

If Battier is guarding Dirk, that leaves Yao manning the middle with Dampier for blocks and rebounds. Alston would be guarding Devin Harris.

Sweetney would have to guard Josh Howard or Jason Terry, with T-mac guarding the other player.

We would be better with Hayes and Howard at PF guarding Dirk, and Battier/Tmac on Terry/Josh Howard.

He doesn't fit under the celery cap, even if we were to unload Bonzi in the exchange.

    Next.

He may be listed as 6'8'' but in reality he is around 6'6''1/2. I agree he isn't needed on the Rockets.
