Brian...I take offense to your post.

I love to sniff crotches, but only on a first date. The chicks seem to dig it too. Well, at least some of them do.

Furthermore, I mark my territory with urine all the time. It's how I keep idiots from entering my office! [IMG]

Are you saying that it's not okay when I do that now?

    BK,

How is that arguing when it does not even address my post?

I said it does not make it right or wrong, just that there are such occurences in more than humans...meaning it is present in nature in beings that do not make choices.

Humans probably smelled crotches and the like in our not-too-distant past.

If you want to revive such things, I say, "go for it!" [IMG]

    From the Texas Penal Code

    "§ 21.01. Definitions

    In this chapter:

    (1) "Deviate sexual intercourse" means:

    (A) any contact between any part of the genitals of one person and the mouth or anus of another person; or

    (B) the penetration of the genitals or the anus of another person with an object.

    § 21.06. Homosexual Conduct

    (a) A person commits an offense if he engages in deviate sexual intercourse with another individual of the same sex.

    (b) An offense under this section is a Class C misdemeanor.

    Acts 1973, 63rd Leg., p. 883, ch. 399, § 1, eff. Jan. 1, 1974. Amended by Acts 1993, 73rd Leg., ch. 900, § 1.01, eff. Sept. 1, 1994."

I thought hetereo oral sex was illegal in TX too... I remember Molly Ivins railing about it speaking at Rice a few years ago

She was probably just passing off someone else's outrage as her own (like the way she sometimes takes other people's stories and passes them off as her own).

Oral and anal sex between heterosexual couples may well continue to be against the law, but it isn't prosecuted. (And even if it is against the law, that doesn't mean that it should be against the law).

Of course, since we're speaking of same-sex marriages, I don't see the relevance of whether or not anal sex is legal or sanitary or what-have-you. Are you claiming that homosexuals won't have anal or oral sex unless they are legally married to each other?

    Sodomy Law Ruled Unconstitutional
    Associated Press, June 8, 2000

    By Juan A. Lozano

HOUSTON –– A Texas appeals court declared the state’s sodomy law unconstitutional Thursday, throwing out the case of two Houston men who were arrested inside a home in 1998 for having sex with each other.

Texas has had a sodomy law since 1860 but dropped criminal penalties for partners of the opposite sex in 1974.

In a 2-1 ruling, the 14th Court of Appeals said the law violates the Texas Constitution because it made it illegal for same-sex partners to engage in this activity while making it legal for opposite sex partners.

So, has the Texas Penal Code actually been changed?

Or did they just throw out that one particular case and leave the homosexual deviancy laws in place?

You are assuming here that animals do not make choices. This axiom I find somewhat suspect. I think animals do make choices (though that's a whole other argument).

I also have trouble with the logic that if a thing occurs in nature, it is 'natural.' Of course, that is one way to define it, but I don't think jamma was using it that way at all (please correct me I'm wrong, jamma). He was talking about Purpose when he said natural -- that sexual organs are built with the operations of heterosexual intercourse 'in mind' so to speak. That an individual -- human or animal -- would use it in a different way does not change the use that was being served in its creation.

If you're a believer in evolution and nature's survival of the fittest concept, how do you account for homosexuality? Personally I believe you are born homosexual or heterosexual but I also believe that some people become confused and may end up choosing to be bisexual or homosexual. Is anyone really born to be bisexual? I doubt that. I wouldn't be surprised if some day soon scientists find the gene that causes homosexuality. Not that I mean causes as in saying it is a disease or anything but you know what I mean... hopefully.

On the marriage issue I really don't care but I can understand why people would be upset. Wasn't marriage originally meant to be a religious ceremony between a man and woman? Some religions take marriage quite seriously. Perhaps another type of ceremony should be introduced strictly for same sex couples. Instead of calling it a marriage they can call it a union or somethin.

how do you account for infertility? i don't understand the obsession with procreation around here. don't we want less people in this country draining resources and taking up space?

Vermont has civil unions for same sex couples. The Republicans in Texas are trying to introduce a bill that would prevent a similar type of union here.

Historically speaking, religion didn't enter into marriage as a normal part of the ceremony until the late 1700's. Before that (and even after that until as recently as the early part of the 2000's), marriage was an exchange of property between wealthy AND not so wealthy clans. Marriages were arranged and religion was only included when the ruling empires began to align themselves with the Catholic religion.

Of course, there were religious ceremonies performed LONG before that but it was not the norm.
