Today, I was thoroughly disgusted by the referee's calls on Yao, but this goes beyond just this instance. Too often have refs been able to alter the dynamics of a game by calling BS fouls (think all of Wade's phantom fouls during the 2006 championship, those ridiculous touch-fouls on Kobe, or anytime Yao moves). Watching the NFL has made me wonder why the NBA will not allow coaches to challenge a call. It's not that radical of an idea for the responsibility of refereeing a game to be shared by both the refs on the floor and the people in the booth. Why not? Wouldn't this help the legitimacy of the NBA, especially in the wake of the Donaghy scandal? Nothing crazy. Just give the coaches the right to challenge, say 3 calls a game. I think that would be a step in the right direction. Comments? Criticisms?
lol You would not be able to challenge a foul call those are judgmental calls. The only thing you would be able to challenge is out of bounds calls and it the player foot was on the line on an attempted 3 pointer which his already reviewed by the refs. So no there should not and will not be challenges in the NBA for Instant Replay.
i like the idea of replay challenges but i think coaches should only receive only 1 or 2 per quarter. these challenges will slow down the game a lot but definetly help the refs not have nights like against the cavs.
yeah personal fouls, roughing the passer, pass interference, and unsportsmanlike conduct are not reviewable in the NFL.
I don't think challenges would effect the game much. There was no call in tonights game that could be reviewed and overturned.
Well ummm sorry to hurt your feelings but there is instant replay in basketball. If its a question able shot they will look it over and change it if its a 3 or a 2. When someone makes a buzzer beater shot they look it over. But as for fouls I doubt that happens
yeah true but for instance a shooting foul: the ref may not have seen the hit to the arm but the coach challenges the foul, it could change the game. but there were not that many tonight
it make the game more legit but games would be dragged out so much that people would eventually get bored altogether and stop watching. it's kinda like how the BCS doesn't want a play-off system. man texas got screwed so baddd.
Rather than instant replay, how about a time machine so we can go back in time and see what sequence of events led up to the hiring of that baseline official.
Dude fouls have already slowed down the game enough. Add instant replay and I might as well watch golf.
refs of racial discrimination . Nba is a gross joke . David Stern is a shameless swindler . Yao Ming is just a tool to make money .
Yes, exactly! Lots of fouls are judgment calls! If it is obvious to everyone after watching a replay on the jumbo-tron that a call was made out of human error, shouldn't a coach be able to get it overturned? True, but why can't we incorporate some positive aspects from one sport into the other? Good plan, but until someone (perhaps you? ) invents a time machine, I find that implementing challenges will be a more practical way to negate human error and incompetence. Not meant as a knock on you as a fan, but I feel that most fans would rather have a fair, albeit longer game in which, at the end of the day, they can have closure despite which team won; I would feel robbed (and hence very pissed) if the Rockets played great but lost in the Finals due to some BS call, but I would be much more at peace if it was a fair game in which the Rockets lost simply because they were outplayed. But maybe that's just me.
