I agree that it would be better for NATO to handle it in some ways. More funds overall, more troops overall, less needed in those terms from the US alone.

However, the issue that I disagree on here is the US pissing off most of NATO. I understand that they are pissed, but I don't think it's our fault because...

    1. We have helped out almost every country in the UN. While the organization keep everybody level (every country gets 1 vote), I still believe we are the clear leader. They owe it to us to at least support us. Especially after Iraq wasn't complying.

    2. The UN went back on it's word. They gave Iraq deadline after dealine to comply with the rules and they didn't. IMHO, If the rules are broken, you don't get a second, third, fourth...chance. For this reason, I believe the US was only acting IN ACCORDANCE with the UN sanctions.

    3. The UN should be more than willing to help now. We did the hard part already. The war is over. All this is now is peace-keeping. I know troops are still dying, Saddam is still unaccounted for, and the situation is still dangerous and unstable, but we did the courageous thing.

    4. I understand there is no proof of W.M.D. but there is also no proof that they DON'T exist. I really didn't care WHY Bush wanted Saddam gone. I just wanted him gone. He has abused his power and his country to an extent that is beyond belief. And with or without these W.M.D., he still posed a threat, just possibly not as great. There is no reason the UN should not want him gone. He was a brutal, horrible man. He did the most horrid things to people that I have ever heard of, save Hitler.

If we knew then what we know now about WWII, should we have gone into a pre-emptive war with Germany? Would there have been any evidence of genocide or deadly weapon cartels? Probably not. But they developed with the mind of one deranged man. We already know the atrocities committed by Saddam. Should we sit around and wait for more while the UN thinks? I don't think so. We won this war alone and we CAN save this country alone.

The UN had no say as to how we fought the war. Why should we let them have a say as to how to rebuild the country?

BTW-I like having these somewhat civil discussions with you. Much better than yelling and name-calling.
