Palestinains attempt to kill Israeli soldiers
    Mar 24, 9:52 AM (ET)

    By MARK LAVIE

JERUSALEM (AP) - A 15-year-old Palestinian throwing stones at Israeli troops in the West Bank was killed by army fire Monday, Palestinian hospital officials said.

    ...

The Palestinian teen, Ahmed Abahreh, was killed in the West Bank town of Jenin, where troops were enforcing a curfew as they searched about 30 homes. Dozens of Palestinians, many of them youths, threw stones at soldiers, who fired live rounds from armored vehicles and jeeps, residents said.

Abahreh died after a shot to the head and a second youngster was wounded in the leg, doctors at Jenin Hospital said.

In another thread here, there was a discussion wrt head shot kills. Makes you wonder about the intent of the Israeli soldier.

It's a sad ending, however, I think she put herself in that situation...

You can't assume when your in another country that all people will act the same way they do in America...

I'm not saying she deserved it, it really is unfortunate, but...

As for icon, I don't think so...She probably was very committed to her beliefs and everything, but icon???

It makes you wonder, since you've already made up your mind.

Ever heard of Goliath? Thrown stones have been used as weapons since the earliest men. They can easily kill a person. They are of course not as effective as bullets, as RM95 pointed out, but their threat should not be dismissed. The intent of the Palestinians throwing the stones is to cause injury or death. With that in mind, I can understand the IDF returning fire. Would it be better if they threw stones back at the Palestinians and killed them that way?

How about firing rubber bullets instead?

They have actually killed a few Israeli soldiers over the years with rocks IIRC. I would have more respect for the Palestinian side if they just took up civil disobedience. It just seems like a winning proposition I am not sure if this fits in with the Muslim religion though or the Arab machismo, any thoughts? I know MLK and Liberation theology were Christian centered, but folks justify *everything* in the name of Christianity these days.

just curious:) Have you been to Tibet? Have you ever seen any Tibetan refugee camps on TV or in person? The reason why i'm asking is becasue i've been there twice, and spent three months over there doing a project when i was there last time. I didn't see any refugee camps or hear anything about it. then, again, just try to make sure we are on the same page.:)

Actually much of MLK's passive resistance was attributed to Gandhi in India. The irony of this statement is that Rachel Corrie was killed attempting non-violent protest. She tried to practice what MLK and Gandhi did and lost her life for it.

You have to give him a helmet, battle gear, a machine gun, some tanks to back him up, F-15s, and Cobra attack helicopters, to guage how he would actually respond to some teenagers throwing rocks.

Soldier: "Command, we're taking heavy tossing here, over."

    Command: "We copy, over."

Soldier: "We're gonna need an airstrike to put these stone tossing barbariens down, over."

Command: "We've taken your request under consideration and decided it would be cheaper to shoot one of the little sh!ts in the head, over"

Soldier: "Couldn't we just use tear gas or fire into the air to scare them off, over?"

Command: "Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!! Oh man, I nearly busted my gut, oh, that was a good one."

Soldier: "Did you like it? I'm thinking I could be the Jerry Seinfeld of Israel. Oh, wait, I've got him in sight, good night beyotch. BLAM"

Come on, I understand the tough position the Israelis are with the suicide bombers, but shooting kids who are tossing rocks. I've been in rock fights with kids, some how I never felt it necessary to cap every guy that hit me.

I know a rock would really scare me if I were sitting in an armored vehicle.

If the article (mainly the Joe Smith testimony) can be corroborated, that about settles debate on this specific incident.

The Jewish World Review would publish an unbiased account of the tradegy?

They had the gall to claim that Reuters use of pictures from "political groups that might manipulate the media" tainted the story. They shifted the focus from the actual event to who owned the camera that took the picture.
