This is too sweet! It seemed like just a week ago we wre like 12 back and Wagner had 12 saves. Now we are 2 back and Wags has 24 saves. woo hoo!
This is great. 2 games out? I'm glad we're in the central and I don't care if everyone else thinks the division sucks.
muahahahaah its great...astros starting to get some pub...cards are chokinf 1-6 since rolen was traded for...
I counted 50. That's a lot more than I thought. My prediction: Barely win the central, like last year.
At this point, I think it will come down to how well we do against the Cards head to head. We control our own destiny.
I can't imagine the Astros will continue to play THIS well over the course of the next 50 games... I can't imagine the Cards will continue to play THIS poorly over the course of the next 50 games.... But I don't think we're going to just eek this division out like last year...the Cards have some fundamental problems with pitching right about now...some significant injuries...plus losing an ace like Kile is VERY hard to recover from...and in this case, it's proved hard from a mental standpoint as well as he was sort of a clubhouse leader. If I were a betting man...I'd say we win the division by 5 games.
What a stunning reversal this has been for the Stros and Cardinals this year. It is the exact opposite of last year, when the Stros completely choked down the stretch and allowed the Cards to "share" the division title. I'm thankful our division is the weakest in baseball, but at the same time, we're still very much in the wild card chase. Woody Williams will be back soon for the Cards and will bolster their starting rotation. Hopefully by the time the Cards death spiral is done, they'll be so far out of the race that it won't matter.
For the division title, it will come down to the 7 remaining games we have against the Cardinals. There will be some big time pressure when we play them and I will be so nervous, I may **** in my pants.
I would say that the AL Central is the weakest division. While the TWins have a very good record (+23), they have feasted on the teams in their own division (+16), none of which have a winning record.
Other than Atlanta, the NL east is weak too. The only problem with the Central is that there isnt that 1 clear-cut, dominant team. All other divisions have that. Also, the NL West is very strong right now, but as the season progresses, they will beat each other up, bringing their records back down to earth.
I agree with this...I keep hearing people say, "what's so different about Atlanta this year? Why are they seemingly so much better this year than in years past?" I would argue that the NL East field is awful this year and unbalanced scheduling is helping to inflate that record a bit. Still...all you can do is beat the teams that are on your schedule.
Crap! 'stros blew it. They had many opportunities throughout the game to take care of this one. They just couldnt capitalize. Well, its alright. Time to look forward to the weekend series.
The NL East seems much better than the NL Central. Even the Phillies are kind of still in the Wild Card race.
