Yeah that is why we want to keep him, do you seriously not understand that? It is an EXPIRING contract which is the main reason he has any trade value.
I say bench his ass, just like the Knicks benched Marbury. He doesnt deserve to display his talent for free agency. Let him get a huge paycut next year by sitting him down this year. The rockets are doing well without him, we need our young players to step up. We defenitely should not trade him, the team is better chance in the offseason during the star free agency market in 2010.
Lets play out the season, let him sit and let him try to convince someone else pay him a ridiculous sum of money to attend games in his nice suits after the season. Let's use that money on ANYONE who can score the ball on a consistent basis.
well hes been to every game and preseason game. and he always seems like he supports the team the best he can and seems enthusiast bout the team. i dont think there's any conflict, i think hes just eager.
If his contract expires the Rockets don't have $23.4 million in cap room. They basically can spend up to the luxury tax if they are signing a free agent during the summer. This season's total Rockets salary is about $74 million while the luxury tax limit is about $58 million. The Rockets are already $16 million over and that's with Scola's cheap deal that ends this season. You can expect he'll make at least $7 million a season next year (he's at about $3.5 million now). Cook, Barry, Dorsey and Pops will all come off the books (if they are not traded) so lets play with some numbers for next season. Assume those four guys are gone, Scola is resigned at $7 million a year and Lowry is signed for $3 million a year (what he is making now). That brings next years salary minus McGrady to just about $50 million. Next year's luxury tax will probably start around $58 million. If the Rockets keep McGrady and let his deal expire they only have about $8 million dollars before they hit the luxury tax. I know my numbers are not exact but you get the idea. The only way the Rockets can attain $23 million worth of player(s) is by trading McGrady before the deadline.
Don't forget the part about him not fitting in with the offense, not playing defense consistently and continually making the focus about him and not the team. People act like he is the consummate professional (thanks Clyde) and the worst case scenario is that he morphs into a potent role player who embraces his role with a smile. I think that line of thinking requires selective memory when it comes to this guy's 12 year career of whining, quiting, slacking and self-diagnosing of medical issues. Honestly, if you factor in his attitude and health I would rather see him walk during the summer than return even in a diminished role. Winning basketball isn't just about who has talent on paper. This year's team and last year's team's run against the Lakers proves that hard work and chemistry have a lot to do with it.
I think they will, but I wish they wouldn't. It'd be nice to have a repaired and reinvigorated, focused 30-year-old superstar on the team, but there seems to be a lot of bad blood now. I think the front office has mismanaged their relationship with McGrady.
Trading Rafer got us Cooked. TMAC's huge negative value will scare Moreyaway from any trade. TMAC is untradable.
Eventually. Sooner than later would suit me fine. At this point McGrady could be a serious chemistry killer. He hasn't shot well in the last two seasons and takes alot of shots, not a good combination. Twenty + points may look good in the box, but when you took a boat load of shots to get it, not so good. IMO it is over for him here, but I understand Les loves him and wants him forever, so we are probably stuck with him.
no matter what we all may want tmac will not get traded and even though wen he comes back he should sit on the bench and earn his pt we all know this is not going to happen. if tmac is healthy he will play and start. RA will more than likely start him and give him chance after chance. tmac will be a rocket untill this summer, we wont trade him because he is a headline and everyone will watch the games to follow this sad sop opera tmac will only slow down chase and trevors developement. tmac shouldnt even be alowed to suit up after the stunts hes been pulling
I thought Mcgrady would be gone for sure by now. Now I really don't have a clue what DM is going to do. I hope he finds a good trade for him. It's time to move on imo.
There is alot of things to consider here. He plays good probably increases is value and teams looking to make moves because they are not currently winning happens all the time especially at the deadline. Keep your eyes on the standings to see what team possibly might make a move.
It's the truth with every squad, there is no such thing as untouchable players when your lousy and loosing.
