I will probably have two step-children in another year since I'm heading down that road with the gf. Both children know I enjoy seeing kids being disciplined in an over-the-top manner. It helps them believe I'm serious when I threaten to make them sleep in a grave yard for a night if they misbehave.
The preview looked really good - but shouldn't it be "The Kung-fu Kid" if they are going to do it in China with a Chinese old man? That's the only quibble I have with it.
Anybody that thinks this trailer is good? I'm sorry, but rap music and Rocky influenced training sequences should be nowhere near the remake of the Karate Kid. The original Karate Kid was about Pat Morita and Ralph Macchio learning about life, the teacher and the student, and it was far more than simply a movie. Will Smith is using the vehicle of the Karate Kid to make a name for his son. Blasphemy. Somebody should step in and refuse to give them those rights to that movie. Jackie Chan can't understand the depth of Pat Morita's performance. God, BOYCOTT THIS FILM!
I'll go see it. Like the trailer and it's always good to see young black actors comin up. Not too many out there for our young people to look to (in movies with actual budgets, anyway). I hope Jaden turns out to have a long and great career.
There's plenty of young people out there for many young people to look to.. sadly none of them display the slightest bit of talent or admirable behavior.. yet you cheer for another..?
I said "our" young people. i.e. black folks. And Jaden Smith (who's coming along fine as an actor.) should prove to be a better influence and inpiration than an lot of other options available. He's a good kid and I'm not getting into this bullsh!t hating you people are on.
May not be many, but Bobb'e J. Thompson blows him away in the acting department. He's got a lot of projects in the works and looks to have a promising future. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1442928/ <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/aOxHsQHepgU&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/aOxHsQHepgU&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
I agree that he's a better actor, but it's also nice to have young actors that aren't put into a bevy of stereotypical roles such as BJT is. Hell, we used to be happy just getting one or two in recurring featured roles. Now, the opportuinty for great diversity and range among young black talents is a fantastic development.
I guess the problem I see is Smith's kid is likely taking away roles that other young actors might be better at because he is who he is.
The Karate Kid is one of my favorite movies of all time... One of those 80's nostalgia that I like to revisit from time to time.. I hope this new remake is good enough because it will never come close to the original...
