Do you guys think Alston (or Sura or whoever plays the PG position) is gonna setup Stromile Swift's dunks as well as Jason ''White Chocolate'' Williams?

They both have similar games, but i think Jason Williams passes are much better and Alston ball handling is better than Jason. So i would prefer Alston because i don't care how you pass( no look, under the leg) as long as its a good pass. The most important thing is the ball handling. I don't want to see our pg wobbling the ball under pressure ala Moochie.

no, Yao will just stand under the basket and inspire Swift to .... great heights.

Ha, sorry, cheap shot. I'm sure this joke has been made too in the past few months and I missed it. I apologize!

Anyway, obviously this can go for anyone of the swift threads, I always thought the job of our pg was to play defense, bring the ball up, give the ball to TM/Yao, and then stand around and hit the open 3. Obviously JVG wants a little something different (or alternatively he is confident Rafer A can do those things better than James). We will see what he does. Perhaps it is precisely to work a two man game with Swift (who I am assuming isn't much for creating a shot by himself) is why he was brought in? But then I could assume that Tmac could do the same. so we'll see.

This is going to be interesting. If you remember, back in the days when we had Hakeem and Barkley, they both liked to operate from the left side of the court(if you were facing the basket). That cause havoc, because it was the same side that Clyde liked to operate from. Defensive players on the right side of the court could go to sleep, because they knew the ball was never coming their way!

I haven't notice Yao being partial to either side of the floor, but then again I haven't been looking for that. Not sure what side Swift is partial to either, because I didn't watch Memphis much. TMac seems to be a right-side player.

If Yao plays the middle of the basket, I can see Swift getting a lot of feeds from RA on the left side. But if Yao likes the left, well, Swift will have to settle for put-backs and garbage dump-offs in the middle.

    Long way to say.."who knows""....

Well I don't think there's going to be any problem with Swift and Yao coexisting on the box. Swift has no post game, never has. If he did, then he'd be sitting on a $70 million contract right now. So Yao will get all the post-ups and Swift will either, spot up at the elbow or the baseline, or cut into the lane for dump-offs and garbage points.

Regarding Skip, seems like JVG is adamant about building a team full of passers. And RA's ability to get into the lane and dump a pass off to Stro or Yao probably won't hurt either. And neither will having a quality ball-handler like Skip, so T-mac doesn't have to bring the ball up in cruical situations.

The conspiracy theorist in me thinks that JVG sees something in RA defensively. These coaches always see guys that they can potentially mold and fit into their system. The rumor that JVG said, "I want him" about Swift, makes me wonder if JVG saw something in Skip that he wanted. They said they had other options, and they put a lot of homework into this decision. Skip has crazy quicks, and if he could commit himself to staying in front of guys, he could be a terrific defender.

Either way, I wouldn't want to bet against JVG/CD right now.

I think it will be Tracy or J.Barry that hooks up with Stro the most, but it will be lovely if we had a constant play of SKip to Stro like the ol' Steve to Cato play.

If Skip can really drive and dish the ball like we hope, he should lead this team in assists easily. T-Mac can focus on getting open instead of creating his own shot and setting everyone else up. Skip should be the main guy getting Swift his alley oop slams. Having a true PG playmaker is going to change our offense more than most people think.

I have a feeling Jon Barry may not get his 23 mpg this year. But he's the type of player who should handle uneven minutes fairly well.

The thing I like best about Skip is he averaged 3.6 asists for every turnover.

Me too. It's an impressive stat and he's on a much more talented team now. I do expect the growing pains though...

RE: Stro specifically I think Alston, T-Mac, DA, Yao and Barry will get him easy baskets, and of course I expect a learning curve there too...

Nice. That's way better than Tony Parker's A/TO. I was hoping Skip would be our Tony Parker, but with a three point shot. Notice how Parker's not that great a defender, either. If Alston can be a better playmaker, better shooter, and more consistent than Parker then it bodes well for us in a series against San Antonio.
