I don't really put too much into an article from the Long Island Newsday. However, I don't see a reason to screw around with Oswalt. I couldn't care less if Redding and / or Munro wasn't back with the team. There is just no reason that Oswalt isn't taken care of. I've said before I don't think he's getting a long term deal this season because there is no reason to. He should get a 1 yr deal closer to what he's asking, I'd say around $7.5 million with incentives. Then, if he makes it through a second healthy season, sign him to a 5 year deal.

Redding's request is pretty freaking ridiculous. He's being a real dumbass going to a hearing with that number; he'll end up only getting the Astros' offer. Were he and his agent to negotiate with the Astros, they could land at least a little higher of a paycheck. $1.4 million for that inconsistent headcase. Ridiculous.

I agree...Tim Redding is on crack! He sucked last year and he wants over a million dollar raise. Million dollar baby my ass!

You have to earn money by performing. I think $100K raise is more than enough for your sorry crack-ass performance...biotch.

Berkman and Oswalt have both strung together several good years proving themselves, in comparison to Hildalgo's one.

    Just heard this on 610....

Astros have avoided arbitration with Tim Redding, by agreeing to a one year deal worth $750,000.

Seriously, why pay this pile of garbage anything? I just don't get the fascination the Stros have with this guy.

Because he has a million $ arm with a .50 cents head.

He has great stuff but he can't put it all together ...yet

I am not holding my breath.... :D

As for Roy, the Astros have control over him until after the 2006 season so no need to panic about a long-term deal until next season. However, it would be a nice gesture on the Astros part if they did give a multi-year deal.

Should have just gone to arbitration and saved a few hundred thousand dollars unless the arbitrator is also on CRACK. :D

Yeah, but arbitration is so ugly. It's been an impressive run the Astros have had, avoiding arbitration since that '97 DK fiasco. I wish they would sign Roy O for 8 Million before his case comes up as well.

If the Astros have to go to arby with Roy O and start listing reasons why he isn't worth as much as he thinks, I think we will have a hard time getting him to stay when he is a FA.

Just doesnt make sense that we are going to dick around with "the cornerstones of our franchise"...hopefully they work out deals for O and Berk but nothing this offseason would surprise me at this point.

I know we last went to arby with DK....did DK leave as soon as he was a FA?

Yea, DK left for what turned out to be less money than the Astros offered, when you take taxes into consideration. Arbitration puts the team in the unpleasant position of arguing their star players' faults.

Exactly. DK wanted no part of the Astros after that '97 fiasco. They had no prayer of signing him. That is why the organization has worked so hard (and so successfully) ever since to avoid hearings. Here's hoping the best with Roy O.
