The German article this Chinese site cited was only speculation. There have been no reports by any credible German news-outlets of the Rockets being interested in Ohlbrecht.

This is the only noteworthy news regarding Ohlbrecht:

    <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Wg. @<a href="https://twitter.com/celtics">celtics</a>-Absage, exklusive Info aus @<a href="https://twitter.com/rgvvipers">rgvvipers</a>-naher Quelle: Ohlbrecht hat andere Optionen, in Kürze soll eine Entscheidung fallen.</p>&mdash; NBA Deutschland (@NBA_de) <a href="https://twitter.com/NBA_de/status/305440787334840321">February 23, 2013</a></blockquote>
    <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Translation: Ohlbrecht declined the Celtics offer because he has other options on the table. Decision expected soon.

Note that it does say optionS, so for all we know Ohlbrecht might still be mulling offers from different teams.

    Yes, he's better than Aldrich.

I would like to see the Rockets get both Ohlbrecht & Whiteside on the roster before the season is over. You can never have to many real Big Men plus they can be used as trade filler durring offseason.

Bima, here's a question for you regarding Ohlbrecht.

Can we sign Ohlbrecht to a 4 year contract on the last day of the regular season or the day after the regular season, following our last regular season game and give him whatever money we come to agreement on ($500,000 to $1 million), and have his salary start at league minimum for a rookie player with 0 years experience in 2013/14?

Since he would be signed on the last day of the regular season or the first day of the playoffs, but never added to the active roster or the inactive roster, it shouldn't count as a year so his salary next season could be the league minimum while whatever money we pay him counts against our 2013 cap.

Is that how you see it? The reason I bring this up is we are charged for a minimum salary cap slot anyways in 2013 if we don't have enough players on the roster. If we had Ohlbrecht signed to that minimum level, he wouldn't be costing us anything against the 2013 and if we could pay him enough to get him to agree to a 4 year non-guaranteed deal at the league minimum for yrs 2-3-4 then it is a no-risk proposition for us. Another Chandler Parsons style deal that we could cut at anytime but if he proved out to be a good player could be traded for tremendous value or could be retained while we moved guys like TJones and Royce White out.

Can we sign Ohlbrecht after the last regular season game and it not count as his rookie year for minimum salary computations since he was never active or inactive during the regular season?

Some thoughts on Ohlbrecht from Mike Procopio, who probably watches just as much basketall as anyone, serving as a personal consultant to Kobe and others.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>.@<a href="https://twitter.com/jr_069">jr_069</a> I like Ohlbrecht, he brings a lot of energy, rolls hard to the rim, uses fakes very well. Solid big to have on bench @ the NBA level</p>&mdash; Mike Procopio (@HoopConsultants) <a href="https://twitter.com/HoopConsultants/status/306146892176293888">February 25, 2013</a></blockquote>

So, I understood "alley-oop," "garbage time" and "access denied." I think these are the English words.

I would be very happy to see the Rockets sign Ohlbrecht. He knows how to play ball, and would be a perfect backup.

I fail to see why the Rockets would commit $1 long term for this guy, especially since Morey just gave up MM for a second round pick and cap space.

    They likely won't.

Just like James Anderson and Patrick Beverley, I fully expect Ohlbrecht to get signed to the Rockets patented 3-year minimum deal with only the rest of this season being guaranteed, which won't impact the Rockets cap down the road.

    good job Morey.

low risk, low cost, medium to high reward.

but that would make FIVE rookie bigmen (DMo_TJones_White_TRob_Ohlbrecht) and a SOPH (Greg Smith) who's practically also a rookie himself.

    Another Vanilla tower? ;)

From what I read, I like this signing very much. Hopefully we can finally hold our ground whenever Asik goes to rest on bench.

    Guten Tag! Herr Ohlbrecht!

Hopefully Hassan doesn't blow-up at RGV and get signed to a Western bubble team.

Aside from his plus shot blocking Hassan hasn't looked good at all so far in the games I've seen him in. I don't think he's going anywhere and it wouldn't matter even if he did.
