A governor from Texas has zero chance for the next 40 years.

Really? He doesn't have the same baggage, but is it less ludicrous?

Honestly, with this field of republicans Perry would be foolish not to give it a shot.

The left's strategy is quite transparent, with no record to run on, all they can do is create a general atmosphere of inevitability and hopelessness for the other side, and heap contempt and ridicule upon the opposition. To the point where they try and laugh a multi-term governor of one of the largest and most prosperous states in the union out of the room and act as if he isn't credible.

Even though this is a solid field of challengers with the additional usual eccentric types (must we forget Al Sharpton, Dennis Kucinich, Carol Moseley Braun?).

Even though the country identifies as more conservative than liberal, even though the wrong track numbers are very high, even though Obama's approval is sub 50%, the goal is to make people think they are nuts for opposing him, to make people question their own beliefs and lying eyes. To make a silent majority feel like a minority.

I think her big problem is that she comes off as unserious and uneducated. People think Perry is a sleazy politician, but I don't think he's ever really been tagged as incompetent or woefully ignorant. He also doesn't have the issue of quitting as governor half way through his term.

I know the time frame is sarcastic, but I still disagree with this sentiment. You never know how fickle the public are, or when a liberal incumbent could screw up (or get screwed) so badly that they want someone the exact opposite. That's probably the best argument there is in favor of large-scale, blind partisanship.

    no no no.

Mitt is a real candidate. Potentially presidential.

Rick Perry is the punch-line to a joke about Texas. Even my card-carrying "R" family members don't like the guy. My wife's family, who live out of state and donate to "R" candidates quite a bit, can't stand the man. They were particularly bothered by the whole secession commentary.

And yet he wont he last election.

Thanks to the first time straight ticket Republican voters during the last election. We got several hundred thousand in Harris County alone. Damn that Obama health care bill, lets all just vote Republican on everything to protest. That'll show him.

don't know how most people feel about him, but everybody hates him at A&M, which is bad to say the least considering its mostly conservative. The guy has a horrible track record to say the least.

You may disagree with the democratic record of the past 2 1/2 years, but to make a statement like this shows your partisanship and ignorance. As has been said, this president has done more good for the nation than any president since FDR.

a summation of the Obama Presidency

Do you, like Rick Perry, believe it's the role of the Federal govt. to take care of the states?

Should be interesting, Romney seems to have a lot of support from Republicans up North.

Yet again we'll see a GOP primary of reason v. religion.

And yet again religion will win.

I don't believe it's the role of the government (federal or otherwise) to take care of anyone.

Finding impurities in philosophy or action as a means of disqualifying someone is silly. You look at the options and vote based on a preferred outcome, not an unrealized ideal.

After the "let's all pray for rain" kumbaya moment earlier this year, Perry doubles down on the stupid.

And for good measure, a really, really, sappy picture.
