Texas has a great education system. One of the best in the country. White Texans graduate at a higher rate than the national average. Black Texans graduate at a higher rate than the national average. Latino Texans graduate at a higher rate than the national average. They all test better than the national average as well. students from low income families test better in Texas than the national average. Asian Texans test better. the list goes on and on. What huge deficit are you referring to?
That clearly made his arguments irrelevant. The arguments about the strength of Texas's mortgage regulations in reducing the impact of the bubble, the benefit of having an energy driven economy, the fact that our wages in Texas are absurdly low (and thus attract companies to come here) aren't "liberal bias." Those are facts so instead of crying about the messenger make an argument as to why he's wrong. Also make an argument as to why Rick Perry did anything to stimulate the Texas economy or why he gets credit for anything here.
Watching Perry get dressed down on the national stage is going to be quite lulzy. His secession BS is going to eventually sink his campaign.
It's way too early because he just hit the trail. The level of scrutiny over every word he says (along with whatever details might be uncovered from his past) will be at a level Perry has never experienced. How will he connected with GOP voters around the country? The press has barely had a chance to sink their teeth into him. This is a year-long vetting process and Perry hasn't proven he can handle it successfully. If Perry isn't undone by gaffs, unlikeability, an unearthed scandal, etc, he has a good chance to beat Romney and be the nominee. But don't bury Mitt just yet.
if i were running a national campaign against perry, i would beat him over the head with the case of todd willingham its not that the country is against the death penalty, its that this so called christian was so eager to execute this guy and not willing to take a look at new evidence are consider that arson investigation techniques in texas were outdated
It would be sweet if Perry won the nomination. Obama would get to run against Bush in 2 elections that Bush didn't actually run.
I agree, and I think Romney will be undone by the passage of healthcare reform in Mass. I think he's got a pretty clever retort, saying it's appropriate at the state-level but not the federal level, but I don't think it's going to fly. Maybe Perry falls apart on the campaign trail. But, I think he fits the archetype of what Republican voters are looking for, and after that cognitive dissonance will help them dismiss all the bad stuff that might come out about him.
Romney's healthcare reform hurts him with Republicans but may actually help him in the general (if he gets there). It will be interesting to watch Perry on the campaign trail. He's never really campaigned nationally and his Texas campaigns were arguably "easy."
Linky? By all accepted studies TX ranks about average in the national studies of standardized testing. http://www.psk12.com/rating/USindexphp/STATE_US.html I can give you more info if you like
I'm sadly more and more convinced Perry might be a viable Republican nominee. The guy is made of teflon. You can point out all sorts of things but he'll just keep harping his nonsense and people will slurp it up. Even in Texas the media turned against Rick Perry and it didn't matter one bit. Also, this primary cycle will be interesting for the Republicans. The past few primaries have more or less been decided by the time it gets to South Carolina. This one will probably go beyond that. I'm thinking Bachmann takes Iowa, Romney gets New Hampshire and Perry picks off South Carolina. It'll spill over into a bunch of new states that traditionally get less airtime.
Agreed. Perry's going to get a huge free pass on all sorts of stuff. I think his never-ending lies about Texas' budget and economy will eventually play a role though.
If he gets the nomination, the highlight of a debate between he and Obama will be Obama trying to dismiss the jobs created in Texas because of the wages they pay.
