Gramm ran cuz he thought he could count on Texas oil money, could easily see Perry doing the same thing. He's Sarah Palin with governing experience; he's Dubya without the draft-dodging, coke, booze or old-money stink. Whatever locals think about his governing, all people outside of the state will see is multiple re-elections. I think Romney and Perry, in whatever order, would be a pretty aggressive contrast to Obama. I wonder if Biden might conveniently retire at some point.
You do know that's not supported in one iota by facts, right? The projected 2011 budget deficit for Texas, when compared to its income, even surpasses California, according to the Dallas Morning (Mourning) News.
Don't confuse the "issue" with facts, B-Bob. I'll add that the public perception that Texas has weathered the financial storm well has been carefully sculpted by Perry and his people. The truth is that we are in a real crisis. White could never get a big enough platform to get the people of Texas to wake up. Perry, in an act of cowardice, dodged the only debate, using lies as an excuse.
if perry tries to go national he will have to debate and as soon as he does everyone will see what a dumbass he really is.
if that was true bush, perry, and palin would not have got anywhere. and yes all three are dumb asses.

I didn't think it was worth a new thread, maybe it is....but has anyone seen Gary Johnson's bid for the Presidency? http://www.garyjohnson2012.com/
That's one measure, but we are performing better in unemployment rates. I'm sure the Perry campaign wouldn't have too much trouble coming up with a slew of statistics about the strength of the Texas economy. That's going to play a lot better than an unfavorable debt-to-income ratio for the state government.
Honestly, Perry has a lot of things going for him to make a run in 2012. The perception that Texas is doing well weathering the financial crisis, major disaster experience, great hair, etc. And who doesn't love a folksy straight shooter from down south?
I doubt he gets out of the primary with all the skeletons he has in his closet (though he did a good job of hiding it as governor), but that doesn't mean he's not gonna try. Rick Perry looks out for Rick Perry (and friends of Rick Perry). I could see a VP nomination, but he doesn't even deserve that.
I try to stay out of politics, but I see the Republicans trotting out Romney and someone else. Even though the Mormon/Flipflop thing will hamstring him a bit.
