I wouldn't release him...I mean it's not like he fired a gun off in a parking lot in front of a strip club or anything or left his dogs unfed for a month or got in a fight with his significant other while she throws a frying pan at the windshield. It's not like he three anyone through a window at a bar. Rafer stays..it's not like he did anything that unusual for an NBA player I hate to say. It's not like he raped anyone....

NBA Players That Get In Trouble With the Law: Do Age and Education Level Matter?

Among the claims often expressed for raising the age floor in the NBA is that prep-to-pros players are more likely to get in off-court trouble, since they lack a college education and, as David Stern puts it, "life experience." One way to test this idea is to study NBA players that have actually gotten in trouble with the law. Were they college educated? Were they young and impressionable? I did a little bit of research, and while I cannot ensure that the following chart reflects a complete list, it is quite extensive and likely covers most of the recent NBA player arrests. The chart reveals the arrested players’ level of education and their age and level of professional experience at the time of arrest. Disclaimer: obviously, an arrest does not mean that someone is guilty of anything; that’s what a trial is for. But, it might a good proxy for “getting in trouble with the law,” particularly given the reputational cost often absorbed by an arrested player, his team, and the NBA.

    http://sports-law.blogspot.com/2005/07/nba-players-that-get-in-trouble-with_20.html

Notable players on this list -

Gilbert Arenas - Unlawful possession of firearm
Ron Artest - Assault and Battery
    Kobe Bryant - Sexual Assault
Sam Cassel - Assault Causing Bodily Harm
Steve Francis - Driving under the Influence
Eddie Griffin - mar1juana Possession, Assault Deadly Weapon, mar1juana and Driving under the Influence
    Zydrunas Illgauskas - Drunk Driving
Allen Iverson - mar1juana Possession and Unlawful Possession Firearm, Assault
    Stephen Jackson - Assault
    Jason Kidd - Domestic Abuse
Scottie Pippen - Battery of Woman
Glenn Robinson - Disorderly Intoxication and Battery and Unlawful Possession of Firearm
Dennis Rodman - Battery and Unlawful Possesion Firearm
    Bonzi Wells - Trespass

The State of the NBA is Just Fine!!! Just another day at the office.

    Rafer is stayin.

Im thinking Rafers trade value has pretty much evaporated by now. He is kind of overpaid to begin with, and with all this trouble he's getting in now no team will want to take that investment. If he really did stab someone in the neck he will probably get suspended for it. The Falcons are allowed to remove Vick's salary from the books per league policy, does it works the same way in the NBA? If the team can just wash its hands of Rafer we will be fine imo. We're pretty much good to go for the season without him.

They forgot to add "Impersonating an Officer of the Law". LOL. That one always cracks me up, what godforsaken reason would a NBA player have to impersonate a cop.

Um, why the hell would the Rockets release him outright. He's owed $15million and despite his warts, he's still a legitimate NBA point guard that can run an offense.

    The sky is not falling.

yeah...and who says the NBA isn't made up of a bunch of thugs? It's why Stern and the NBA should or has been actively seeking out Euros/foreign players so they can improve the image of the NBA.

    Thats quite a list.

I question a lot of the assault charges though, these guys are targets. Anyone who thinks they can make a buck by saying one of these guys hit them is all over it. Basketball players don't have groupies cause they are pretty like some boy band. They have groupies cause they are rich and people want their money.

this is no surprise, we know that morey was trying to trade rafer even before he got into trouble with the law. but now rafer has put the rockets in a situation that teams will not want rafer just by himself. morey will have to sweeten the pot and offer another key player as well that teams will want, possibly luther head.

Might have to keep him like the Kings gotta keep Artest. Artest is a much greater talent than Alston though and teams still want him but cheap. Kings probably don't want to give Artest up for nothing though...so lots of similarities cept Rafer sucks.

Releasing Rafer outright is more of an option now.
