Ugh, I don't want to talk about him. I've never seen such a big guy lack the mentality to just man up and take control. He has the size to fight through just about anybody, but he is too weak-minded to do it. I suppose the Rockets coaching staff could try to teach him that, but the Texas coaching staff have been trying that for four years now.
Of course he will, I remember thinking last draft "Morey, why the **** didd you draft a SF, a SG, and a PG when we need a center" Anyone remember what people saud about Brooks? Landry? Morey never does what's expected.
He regressed badly as a senior. Waaaay too many weak hook shots and missed layups around the rim when he should have been going up strong and dunking it. Not to mention the dumb fouls and disappearing acts for long stretches.
J-Hill is great but he isn't strong enough to play the Center position yet. Hill of course can contest shots Chuck Hayes can't, but he isn't a great shot blocker right now so our defense wouldn't be that much improved. Brad Miller still can play but I don't think he'll do much too much to help us defensively. And remember we WERE right at the top defensively with a legit Center that could defend the post. Much rather have a young propect like Whiteside that we can maybe groom into maybe a special player than Brad Miller at this point in his career.
Yeah I understand what you are saying. I just don't know if he thinks very highly of Whiteside or any of the other Cs that will be available at 14? Maybe if he can't move up, he moves back and then takes Whiteside as a project. Then have B Miller as a vet backup. I think we just needed some size (somebody over 6'6) to fill up some space in the lane. Will be interesting to see what happens starting around 7:15 tonight when pick #3 starts...
Brad Miller at his age is not an acceptable option. We need low post scoring, rebounding, and defense to win in the playoffs. That's not Brad Miller, he's an outside jump shooter and we have enough people to put in the hole. We need rebounders and defenders at the 6'11" and above plateau
I think its more likely they trade down in the draft and get maybe two players who have fallen off the radar and one of those players could be a PF or Center. Maybe trading back to get Solomon Alabi and a wing. Wouldnt put money on Alabi(although he is actually a really good free throw shooter which Morey loves), but if you put a gun to my head I would say they will trade back to get multiple players that are off the radar of most GMs. Just for fun...Here is my top 3 players the Rockets would want for the 3 scenarios: Moving up to the 5 - 8 spot: 1. Greg Monroe 2. DeMarcus Cousins 3. Al Farouq Aminu Staying around the 14 Spot: 1. Paul George 2. Patrick Patterson 3. Gordon Hayward Moving back to late 1st round Early 2nd round: 1. larry Sanders 2. Solomon Alabi 3. Gani Lawal
I feel you, but so does every other team in the league. Those guys are not just sitting out there looking for jobs. I'm sure Morey knows this team needs a little more help in the post. He tried to get Amare at the deadline so that tells me he is trying. I just mentioned B Miller as a option. He is a big physical body, better than what we had this past year off the bench. So if we can get him for part of the MLE, why not?
I think it all depends on where we are picking. Obviously if we manage to move up, it'll be to pick up someone high on everyone's draft boards. It's when you get later in the first round that Morey surprises you but then again, that's when he traditionally moves down in the draft to pick up an asset while still picking the player on no ones radar. If he moves down from the current #14, you can bet it's to take a player few are talking about. If it's in the 2nd round, it's to get a player NO ONE is talking about.
I can feel it in the air. The WTF moment tonight will be that we trade down, maybe even more than once, and back into DM's 'comfort zone' of late-1st-round/early-2nd-round talent, picking up extra picks and rights to overseas players we don't know, and ultimately land someone like Alabi. Sound and Fury, Signifying Nothing.
You may be right, but at some point he is going to have to get lucky and have one of them become a superstar or trade some of them for one....not as easy as what he has done so far, but he has done an amazing job, so you got to give him a chance to try. DD
I will say that Alabi looks like our type of player. But yeah, go safety zone, or swing for the fences - whichever. We'll see.
Seems highly unlikely that the Rockets' draft will resemble any of the predictions, given their spot in the order, Morey's method of evaluating players and how active he is on draft day. If they were picking in the top 5, you might be able to predict who they would take. But not when they're this far down in the order. There will be surprises.
Most on his board would consider Larry Sanders at 14 a WTF moment. SO I hope there's a chance Morey has one of those WTF moments. Of the players I think might be available at the 14th. I would take Patterson, Sanders, Aldrich or George. If we needed a wing I might put George ahead of Sanders. I like patterson but he probably will be gone. Everyone knows how I feel about Sanders. Aldrich is going to be a workhorse and NBA journeyman and I would understand if Morey picked him over Sanders. Givony says George was a late bloomer who grew 2 inches this year and was in a bad system so there is alot of reasons to believe he will improve. I would like one of those guys at 14. There some talk of the Thunder trying to move up to get Aldrich. And Patterson is almost for sure gone by 14 unless Toronto really does love Bradley. If that happens the best of the rest would be henry, Hayward, Sanders, With those options it makes my choice easy. Please don't mention Bradley or James ANderson. Forget about Alibaba or Orton and absolutely do not speak of shy (on and off the court) Hassan Whiteside. Sanders is simply the best choice among those. yes henry will be a good player and Hayward has heart but Sanders has the attitude to be a good to great player in the league for a long time. <script src="http://player.ooyala.com/player.js?autoplay=0&height=380&width=480&embedCode=1mNjllMToUWYP_rln8d1Psh8WidkMwfN&deepLinkEmbedCode=Y0aHVkMTqdmDH0RIzH6X9JsDGIDcIKad"></script>
This Is What DM the GM is going to do: 1. Trade the 14th Pick to Portland for Rudy Gay & #22 2. Trade K-Mart and Battier and #22 to Minny for #4 and Rights to Rubio  3. #4 Drafts D. Cousins WTF did he just do.... AMAZING!
