To answer the question: No, Pau can't defend power forwards anymore.

Something I got from the video: Donatas Motijunas set the all-time record in the Euroleague for rebounds? Whaaaaaat?

Getting Pau makes a lot of sense for this team. Instant upgrade at the 4 and can play the 5 when Asik sits. He would improve our team tremendously. Go after K-Love in 2014 and try to resign Gasol at a much cheaper deal. A rotation of Asik, Love, and Gasol would be very good.

    I can't comprehend this logic

You have a young up & coming team that leads the league in points scored. You also get tons of fastbreak points. Why would you pursue a old, slow, soft & injury prone player past his prime. Not to mention defensive liability. The only thing Gasol has is a decent midrange shot & post game thats ineffective against physical defenders. Your telling me you'd risk the future of this franchise on a 7 foot cry baby who often disappears and effort is at times questioned? Hell no.

Give me Milsap or wait it out for Aldridge

If we can't get Dwight or CP3, I think this is the perfect filler player.

On only a 1 year deal. Still a solid player under the right system. Perfect compliment to Asik. (Pau is great on offense, Asik great on defense).

If we can steal him cheap, I'd definitely do it.

Gasol's most valuable asset is his postgame...something the Lakers didnt take advantage of...Gasol for a year would be a solid fill in for these young Rockets...PS. also note Garcia and Delfino were older players that loved playing in this system...

Gasol in the international setting loves the high tempo offense...and is a terrific passer...Gasol gives us an instant post game with the addition of excellent high post offense...Gasol would be a nice fit if the Rockets loose out on a player they really want...

Chris Paul would the best player we could get in the offseason(more than Dwight) bc he would be the best driver for our brand new porsche...and Harden could really learn to play off the ball more...

In a hypothetical unrealistic situation, say we sign Chris Paul, traded Lin to free up cap space, Dwight resigns with LA, and LA amnesties Pau. Would it be possible for us to sign Pau? I'm not 100% on how amnestying works.

I think a Paul/Harden/Parsons/Pau/Asik line-up would be pretty damn awesome

His postgame is above average but useless against physical defenders. You also conveniently didn't mention his age, softness or lack of effort he has at times. Morey getting Pau Gasol would be a HUGE black eye on him and the Rockets organization at this point. In a off season where we're supposed to continue rebuilding, you guys want get old & slower?

You are assuming we will keep him more than one season. His contract is only for one more season. Coincidentally, Kevin Love is a free agent when that happens.

We wouldn't lose any major asset if any.

Of course, this is if Dwight and Chris stays in L.A.

Its possible depending on how far the bid goes up for Gasol.

Assuming the rockets decline all of their team options, trade Thomas Robinson for a second round pick, and sign CP3 to the max, the Rockets would be right at the lux tax limit.

After (hypothetically) trading Lin, and assuming he's either going to the Clippers in a S&T, or going to another team without salary coming back, the Rockets would then have between 6 and 8 million on cap space depending on how CP3's salary is structured.

So once Gasol hits the amnesty wire (hypothetically) the Rockets would only be able to go in at around 6 or 7 million. If anyone like Dallas gets involved, they could either trade for him to ensure they get him, or out bid Houston fairly easily.

Its hard to see Gasol going that cheap if he's amnestied on a one year deal, but yes it is possible that the Rockets could in theory move Lin and Thomas Robinson in order to sign CP3, and go after someone like Gasol in Amnesty or possibly Millsap with a full MLE offer in free agency instead.

This. If we miss out on the really big fish I can't think of any other player that could help us tremendously and not hamper us for the future. Gigantic expiring 1 year deal that would set us up for a ton of cap room again the following year where there are going to be a lot more big fish available.

Only one season????? Your the youngest team in the league, signing a slow, old & at times lazy bigman isn't helping your rebuilding process. If Dwight doesn't come here, then we should pursue a Milsap type player and keep Asik as our center. If speed & quickness is our strength then how in hell does Gasol fit in the equation? I'm not sure you guys read the scouting report on Gasol.

I pass. He is under contract and they are going to want $10-$15M in assets in return. As a free agent, i'd be happy with signing him. He fills a need. Back to the basket power forward who can rebound. I think Pau has about 5 good years left in him. Just as with Scola, the footwork and jumpshot are the last to go. Fundamental and finesse players last longer in the league than power players. Look at Duncan. He will contribute much longer than Dwight Howard.

Lazy? Did you see what he did to us in the last game of the season and in the playoffs? He is still extremely effective, skilled and fits a huge need.

Speed and quickness is our strength and Asik fit right in with it. It's not like he is some track star.

It sounds like you havent watched much of Gasol and have based your judgement on last year where he shared the court with one of the bigger ball hogs in the game and Howard.

I'm not advocating trading major pieces to get him or going after him before the real superstars, but I would take him for 1 year over signing Millsap or Smith to long term deals 100 times out of 100.
