If we don't/can't get Gasol/Howard- are there any other Gasol-like players we can get? Meaning a quality,veteran power forward we can rent for a year or two?
With that, I'm lowering my partial waiver claim bid for Gasol to $6M from $10M. As reference, Mavs got Elton Brand for $2.1M last year.
Spending money on him, I can see. Sending them players like Garcia, Delfino, OK... but I wouldn't really want to lose any of our PF prospects over him. As far as I'm concerned, we have three guys, one of whom will pay off big time, and I want a good reason to give up on any of them before another year has passed. Gasol is just short-term filler, though a high-level filler.

If so, then I agree that they will not trade Gasol for just tax relief, and probably not at all.
Kupchak is right, but that changes nothing in my post. My calculations (which should probably be updated based on the recently revised projections) do NOT include any repeater tax. Those amounts are just the "regular" new luxury tax for the Lakers. If this were 2014-15, those amounts would be a LOT higher.
no gasol prob has 2-3 good years left. the rockets won't be straight wcf final contenders with just gasol, u kidding me?? think of the future.

I agree with you, sign him for a year and you have nothing to loose as long as the price isn't to high. I think one of our rookies has a chance to become something and the extra year would be nice.
Lakers would have to amnesty Pau first and the Rockets would have to win his bidding rights, or he is waived and clears waivers and the Rockets can just sign him as a Free agent to whatever amount that is agreed to. That would be the ideal situation if he were to be a Rocket next season. Otherwise, it's either trade for his current contract now with pieces going to the Lakers (who themselves are looking to have cap space) or wait until after next season when he becomes a free agent. Right now, he's supposed to make a little over $19 million next season.
It's unlikely the lakers amnesty pau, they need him if dwight leaves, and they probably need to give their word to keep him to dwight if he doesn't.

If he’s amnestied and we don’t land Dwight. And I can only see the Lakers amnestying him if they don’t resign Dwight so that means that if Dwight signs with someone other than the Rockets AND the Lakers amnesty Pau – then Morey moves in for plan C.
Id love Gasol if the Rockets missed out on Dwight... however something to keep in mind- If Dwight does not sign in Houston, he's most likely re-signing in LA. If LA gets Dwight to re-sign, its most likely under the pre-condition that they are going to keep the band together next year, and go for a title. Gasol being the most reliable member of the band with Kobe and Nash banged up. The only way I see the Rockets getting Gasol for cheap is if Dwight somehow decides to go to either Dallas or Atlanta. In that case, i could see the Lakers blowing the whole thing up, and starting from scratch. Making Gasol to the Rockets very feasible.
Back then he also talked about players stepping up. Harder to develop Allstars than trading or signing ones.
