It's comical that Mcclain cites that as a reason after what happened last offseason. John, you obviously do not understand the nuances of NFL contracts. It's ok, we don't either...just stop pretending that you do.

Personally I'd rather keep Yates and QB even if we had the opportunity at McNabb. Now if we're talking backup sure but what would change anything from what he showed in Minny regarding starting QB potential.

I'd go for it, at least McNabb is not as old and washed up as Delhomme and has proven that he can play unlike Yates or Clemens. Yes he is old but he is a veteran and knows how to win.

McNabb would make me so much more comfortable about making a playoff run.

McNabb would find playing with this team a rejuvination in his career, he is better than anyone not named Schaub on the Texans.

I say just pick him up and have him earn that starting spot in practice. If he can beat out Yates that would be great going into the playoffs where we need some veteran leadership.

The guy was running Shanahan's system in Washington, he would be a lot further along in understanding the system than anyone else...

If the Texans can get him they should and drop Clemens.

The Texans are NOT signing McNabb. You can forget about that.

I would to have McNabb on this team. He has the playoff and leadership experience to win. If our goal is to get to the Super Bowl I think that McNabb provides a higher chance of completing that than TJ Yates. With a good O-Line and lots of weapons around him I believe that McNabb would do just fine here.

This was my point exactly. At least he won't come in clueless. Whether or not the Texans sign him, I still think he's a better fit than Delhomme and Clemens. I'd start McNabb over Yates, just because this is a playoff bound team. I'd rather see someone with playoff experience leading this team than an unproven rookie.

What if he clears waivers? Any chance then?

I think McNabb is probably the most overrated QB of his generation, but at this point, I would absolutely take a chance on him. He would at least take shots down the field and keep the defense honest. Limit him to about 15 attempts a game and he should be fine. Yes, he is washed up, but much less washed up than other guys everyone has been considering.

I'd rather have a guy who washed out this season over a guy who washed out last season and hasn't played since.

McNabb is at the very least familiar with what Kyle Shanny tried to run last season and I think he only deserved a sliver of the blame for failing in Washington.

What if he waited and didn't sign Delhomme? Would they have tried to claim McNabb?

Absolutely, if TJ fades, he would be a logical choice. I think his thing is more mental and a chance with the Texans might be just the ticket to revitalize him. When he was good, he was really good.

I think that's the only possibility. Really, it's kind of pointless for the Texans to claim McNabb, since every other QB-needy team (Chicago, possibly Dallas) is ahead of Houston in the order. Plus, isn't the waiver period typically 48 hours, which would have it ending Saturday afternoon?

If McNabb were to make it to Houston on waivers, he'd make it all the way through, in which case he could be signed for around the minimum. Plus, it would only take 24 additional hours of waiting to see how Yates looks against Atlanta.

If McNabb clears waivers and Yates struggles on Sunday, I could see the Texans giving McNabb a call on Sunday night. But that's the only scenario. Don't see a waiver claim this week - it just doesn't make sense.

It could be a smokescreen by us, saying were not interested in McNabb...The Bears will not put in a claim if they think no one else is interested, so they can sign him for a lot less.

If thats the case we could say were not interested and snake him in the waiver if the Bears don't..

Highly unlikely, but hoping for the best!

Albert Breer predicts that he will clear waivers and I think I agree with him. Nobody wants to spend $1.5 mil for 5 games with a QB that hasn't done anything in 2 years. Other than money, we also won't get him because...

    a. He won't start here unless Yates is awful
    b. He likely won't accept a backup role
    c. He was terrible in our offense last year with Washington

If the Bears don't pick him up as a starter I think he's done.

Bears wouldn't pick him up as a starter, just a fall back incase Hanie goes to hell or an injury. McNabb is better than Cade McNown
