Is this the stupidest post ever?

    I vote yes.

(I mean, come on, TMac hasn't played a full season yet.)

    - Blocking Jordan
    - Blocking 3 pointer of Starks in last play of the Game 6 of 1994 Finals ( one of the best moments of hakeem, and rockets)

    Hakeem = Houston

How bout the jaw-dropping block on Strickland's seemingly uncontested layup in Game 2 of the 94 first round series vs. Portland?

One of the most amazing athletic plays in league history bar none.

Or the spin move jam on Ewing in Game 3 of the NBA Finals where Ewing was literally immobile for a 3 count .

Or any of the 2000 moves against DRob in 95 WCF.

You really got toasted for this post - but i know what you mean. Hakeem isn't remembered for hitting buzzar beating walk-off shots. No big man really is because they don't get the ball with 1.3 seconds left.

But if you don't remember the spins, twists, turns over and over - just these unconscious turnaround jumpers and mixed array of shots that individually look like luck, but put together as 5 or 6 consectutive shots makes you realize that it is anything but luck - then you can't appreciate Hakeem.

It's like judging Jimmy Hendrix after hearing a few chords. You'll never understand the greatness. You might say he was a one hit wonder based on album sales - but you'd miss the whole picture.

Didn't you hear the man? THAT. NEVER. HAPPENED.

The whole "story" was a malicious invention of the commiepinkohippieamericaandthedreamhating liberal media. It never happened.

A slightly different perspective: I actually hope that TMac becomes known as the "greatest Rocket ever", even over the legend that is The Dream. If TMac is to be considered the greatest Rocket ever, he has a lot of greatness in front of him.

And the sweet thing is, we'll all get to watch it over the next decade or so.

How can you not hope that TMac eventually surpasses The Dream? I bet Hakeem himself, gracious and humble as he is, would be the first to wish that TMac would surpass him (at least publicly). How can you not wish that the best player on your team becomes the greatest ever on your team? To do so betrays a certain loyalty to the past over the present and future.

Don't get me wrong; I am a huge fan of Hakeem, and have been for many years. Back in 1996, when ClutchCity.com was new, I created what I think are the first fan Rockets wallpapers (I've never seen any older). They were perhaps the first things hosted on the ClutchCity Wallpaper archive. The best one I did was a montage of Hakeem in action over an intense side headshot. The text went:

They call him The Dream ...
and on certain nights, when he is truly on
he is nothing short of legendary.

He shoots the ball like he has radar in his fingertips
and his defense is a seven-foot brick wall.

    And on those nights, those watching him shake their heads in disbelief;
because no man can be that good ...

    They call him The Dream.

I love The Dream. But I'd love Tracy to surpass him. It wouldn't lessen my feelings for Hakeem in any way. An addition to the Rockets' pantheon hurts no one.

NBA Superstars ... still got it on VHS. Also includes Larry Bird/"Smalltown", Magic Johnson/"Control", Jordan/"Take My Breath Away", and I think Dominique Wilkins is on there too, but I can't remember the song.

    Yes he will.....

    As long as he:

    1. Becomes MVP and..
    2. Wins at least 2 titles while here in Houston.
    3. Doesn't get on the bad side of the fans.

All are very possible, so could T-Mac be greater than the Dream?

That could also be very possible.

Judging by many of the posts, I think it's pretty obvious that a lot of Rockets fans just don't want Tmac to be "the greatest" because of their love for Hakeem.

It's sort of like, do you think your step mother can be better than your real mother?

Who's to say Lebron doesn't play for the Bulls some day?

50 Cent is par with Tupac.

Nikkie/Paris? Wouldn't Paris have to be good at something (besides internet p*rn) to be Hakeem's equal in her business?

50 isn't worthy of being in the same sentence as Tupac

Is Robert Patrick better than David Ducoveny?
    Don't care

Tupac is selling platinum albums... and he's not alive!

Tupac rapped about many subjects, social issues, women, etc. He was a multitalented guy.

50 Cent is how much I would pay for 50 cent's album.
