Wouldn't if be great (albeit near impossible) if we could get Hakeem to fill in for a while as an assistant if Ewing does go to the Knicks. Think he Could he teach Yao some things? (I'm not questioning his talent...just coaching abilities)

Yeah, I did. Of course, when Dream did it, it was called "conserving energy". The guy was great, but no one goes full tilt all the time.

Let's not forget that the Rockets were notorious for letting teams back in a game. They lost more than their fare share of 20-pt leads.

On the other hand, the man has a quadruple-double, the record for blocked shots, top 10 in steals, up there in rebounds and points, back-to-back championships, MVP, defensive player of the year, championship series MVP, etc. etc.

Yes, it would be great, but it would never, ever, ever happen. Hakeem has no such aspirations. He's hardly even in the states these days the way it is.

    I believe so...and here's why.

Guards have the ability to be the hero. They control the ball. They control their own fate when the games on the line. If TMAC hits some legendary shots...especially in the playoffs , throughout his career in Houston - there is no doubt in my mind that he will be raised as the best Rocket ever.

If you sit back and look, what do you really remember Hakeem for. Like, what is his greatest moment, shot, whatever? I just remember his accomplishments from afar based on numbers and the things he did factually. I remember Mario hitting huge shots as a picture in my brain. Not Hakeem.

That's the area Tracy will have to attack in order to be held as the best Rocket ever.

Have you read any of it? If you have you'll notice I said "WILL" and not "IS". "WILL" McGrady be the greatest Rocket ever? Not "IS" he the greatest Rocket ever.

McGrady even if he brings more than two championships will never be able to surpass Dream.

Dream is Houston, he is the Rockets period. But besides this it's the way the championships were won. He dragged one of the least talented (albeit most cohesive) teams I've ever seen to a championship in '94, doing so with some of the most amazing come from behind performances in NBA playoff history.

The icing on the cake was in 1995. The Rockets had no respect even as defending champs because Jordan was back. Just as they were struggling, the Drexler trade gave them new life and reunited Dream and the Glide. Coming from the lowest seed ever they swept the Magic and another media darling (Shaq).

The point of the recap is that those two years were like one long indian summer. It was like it was fate: the huge upsets, the mouth dropping comebacks, Hakeem and Clyde back together in Houston, Clyde finally getting his ring. It was just perfect. The script couldn't have been written any better the feeling couldn't have been any sweeter.

How could T-Mac ever accomplish anything that could compare to that?

I think he'll have to put up four of five incredible years just to surpass the Hayes and Malone on the all-time Rocket list. Calvin and Rudy are up there for different reasons. It all depends on your criteria, but I think he's got a long long way to go with or without the rings.

HAKEEM is better, but probably T-Mac have his jersey retires by Houston, and I think drexler is better than McGrady.

Wow! You just gave me a great idea for another poll!! Just kidding, I don't do many polls and this is my last for awhile.

Oh, by the way. I think TMac is better than Drexler. :)

The above statement is only 1 lucky shot away from being valid for Ewing ;)

This is the greatest point of all. Those of us that got to see the Hakeem era now have a chance to see a "second coming" of sorts, and for those that didn't get to see Dream play much now get to know somewhat what we felt like. Its different players and different positions but its greatness either way.

Tmac, or any star guards play, is normally a more flashy and offensive style which makes it more marketable. On the flip side there have been and are certain guards that disrupt the game with their defense and although Tmac is solid I don't find him "scary" as was the term used before. Is it possible Tmac could be considered the best Rocket ever? Sure. But it will take alot.

    Dude,
we all know the second greatest Rocket is:

Dont even argue, cause this wouldn't be CLUTCH CITY without Maxwell's heroics against Phoenix with out backs against the wall.

NO ONE has more HEART than this guy. A true Rocket !

hindsight is always 20/20 but at the rate he's going, easily if he getes 2 or more u know what's..and plays at this level for say, 6 years? u gotta lov what he's bringing, no disrespect to 34....then again 34 is the ROCKETS...I mean, really. Now that statement about t mac better then drexler...that's an open discussion in some ways..agin without rings, maybe it would take 3, it is all hypothetical now isn't it ? .....

Way too early to call. Hakeen dominated during the two championship runs; if TMac can do the same, then I think you can start to make the comparison. I believe TMac may be more marketable than Hakeem, though...at least on a national scale. No Rockets fan should ever forget that Hakeem took us from Choke City to Clutch City.

No chance. Dream is the greatest C of all time in my opinion. he revolutionaized the Center position.
